Hi...just wanted to say hello to felllow "glad baggers".
I had my first ostomy 6 yrs ago and the last one in Nov.
I lost the rest of my colon..and the colostomy is now
an illeostomy...I've not taken any meds as I am free from
the crohns now (according to my Doc)..He is confident
that I am going to do better (as long as the disease does
not get the small intestine too...It was hard at first but now
it seems to be old hat...I am glad to be alive
I do have days when I feel ugly and wonder if a man
would find me attractive now......Anyway just wanted to
say HI and I'm gald to know others with the
"Brown Bag Special".....Sorry but i have to be lighthearted
not making fun..it's my way of dealing. Sandee

I've come a long way in 5 months learning to "deal" with this bag thing. It seemed like such a big deal at first I never thought I'd be comfortable with it and accept it. Lately tho I have been in several situations where I just had to laugh. My daughter and I had gone out to eat. Before surgery that would have meant find ing a bathroom asap. She wanted to go get her hair cut but knew my usual routine and asked if I wanted to go home first. Nope , I said not a problem. So as she was getting her hair cut and I was sitting there waiting, and "doin my thing" I had to smile. That is just too bizzare that I can be anywhere and not have to worry about where the bathroom is! I have to admit it sure is alot more convenient!

MY GI is big on maintenance meds. I'm not sure how I feel about that. MY surgery was in JAn. and my CD is already active again so not sure it did much good, have already spent another week in the hospital for a flare.

Every day is an adventure! Always something new it seems to keep me busy!

I wish you CD free days for a very long time!

Hi Cindy thank you for your reply and sharing a bit of your experience. And I loved the saying about the bowl of cherries...I'll have to write that down. I hope that you do well and have no flare ups...This is a dreadful disease to live with and discouaging when you have body altering surgery and then find yourself back to square one.. I too have experiences since my "bag" that were frustrating at the time but I can look back later and laugh...All we can do is take one day at a time and try to encourage those around us in similar situations...Thanks again and good luck to you..I will write your name in my prayer journel! Hi Sandee,

I've CD for about 8 years.  the first three wasnt too bad but the next five were real ugly because I developed fistulas on my butt. about six all together.  I had two seton surgeries and then a temp ileostomy last year, but they woldnt get better, they kept getting worse, to the point that my bottom was one big open fistula. I have been on about every kind of med and still nothing. so i had to choose between being sick or having the ileostomy forever. So I had my colon and rectom removed last month on May 6th.  I am doing alot better now, I didnt think i was ever going to heal from the surgery but I am recovering good now.  I still have an open wound on my bottom where the cut out all the dead tissue form the fistulas and that is doing good, i still have to have it packed twice a day ,  its not bad though because it doesnt hurt.  I hate having the bag but I Love not being sick. So I guess the pay off is worth it.

Like Cindy said its so great to be able to do things and not have to worry about the impossible urge to run to a bathroom.  There are days that I feel so good because I can enjoy life now and its all because of my own little personal porta potty.

I Just tell myself, it could be worse !!!
