Hey Everyone! So, today (Wednesday) is my 3 week-iversary of being colon...and UC, free!!!
I continue to feel better with every day that goes by. I am blessed beyond words to finally be on my way to having my health and my life back. Also, to be surrounded by so many great people....from my amazing Mom who has been taking care of me for over 2 months now....to my wonderfully loving and supportive boyfriend who has done nothing but stand by my side through all of this...amazingly caring, fun and understanding friends...and all of you out there on the world wide webs, lending support, listening to rants and everything in between. Everyone I know has been and done more than I could have ever asked them to do.
Yesterday I had my follow up visit with my surgeon and ostomy nurse. They both were very happy with where I am in my recovery and continue to seem impressed with how well I've done, considering where I was just 3 short weeks ago. I don't have to see the surgeon again for 2 more months unless something comes up. I spent the most time with my WOCN....we changed me out to a new, 2 piece appliance to see how that works for me, and ordered some samples from a few different places to start figuring out what I like. It could still take a while, since my stoma (yet to be named) has a lot of healing to do...but just starting this process makes me feel like I've come a long way.
Also, my stoma is not in the best place for my pants...but I'm not really all that concerned. My surgeon actually seemed worried that I'd be more upset about
that...and mentioned moving my stoma at some point, if I wanted. For now I have no problem being patient, waiting for healing to finish and for me to gain some weight so that I can really see how clothes will work for me. I think it would have to be impossible for me to wear clothes for it to be worth another surgery just to move the stoma a bit, but we'll see.
Best part of the checkup, though I had already talked to her about
it....my surgeon gave me an enthusiastic "all clear" to go on a road trip with my Mom, leaving today!! We will be driving a little over 7 hours to go stay with my brother and his wife, and finally meet their baby!!! He's my 1st nephew, Mom's 1st grandbaby, and I could not be more excited to go see him and spend time with my brother and sister-in-law. All of this is long overdue and made extra special for me because of all that I have been thru recently.
That said....I feel like there is more I wanted to post about
...but it is getting very late. I still am not totally packed, and have to be up in about
6 hours or less to take the dogs to the kennel. Then I'll make my way back here...finish getting ready and we'll hit the road. Hopefully I have packed enough supplies, clothes, food, etc... didn't forget anything and will do well traveling. I'll update when I can and hope all of you out there are doing well!
