Friend of mine had to have most of their pancreas removed and their cholesterol skyrocketed for awhile, but after a couple years settled down again. I am going to baseline mine before my surgery (well, an f--d up baseline now that I am back on high dose pred but at least a sort of baseline). Total cholesterol is fairly worthless IMO if the key ratios are good, and Triglycides low, HDL high. Even the so-called "bad" LDL can be broken down into different types of LDL, the harmless type of LDL and the more sinister kind, in more advanced blood chol. tests.
