Just thought id say Hi!..
Im usually over on the UC forum but as ive exhausted all options with meds, with no success.. Ive surgery scheduled for the 15th July.. Just got the call this morning!

Im nervous, very nervous.. and sorta excited in a way, to bring an end to UC suffering, medications etc - Im also hoping that its UC so that I can get a 2nd surgery to preform a pouch (This will be confirmed after they take out my insides).

Im not looking forward to life after surgery, as having an ostomy isnt the same as life without one (im sure).. but what will be will be! - Surely an improvement of what life is at the moment.. and I know I will adopt! we are an adoptive species lol

Anyways..
Hopefully I don't have too many questions for after my chop lol

All the best guys, and girls..

Best wishes to you. Like most people on here, you'll be more than relieved to rid yourself of that sick part of your being. Most negative aspects of a stoma are far outweighed by the benefit of feeling well and having a quasi normal life again....acceptance is key.

Bruce said it well.

Good luck with the surgery and hope the pathology confirms UC only so you can have the pouch ultimately.

You will be amazed even with the surgical healing and recuperation how much better you will feel having that diseased colon out of there.

Check in when you are up to it and let us know how you are doing.

Be sure to have your stoma marked and placed prior to surgery and wear the type of pants you normally wear to help in the marking of the stoma site.

Best of luck! Once you recover from the surgery you are going to wonder why the heck you waited so long! Life UC free is awesome! :)

Amen to no drugs! After recovering, even with complications and probable Crohn's, having a stoma seems so much less of a big deal than putting all those poison drugs in my body (now I only take vitamins).

I found that I'd lost all perspective and was just so used to being sick.... After recovering from surgery, I felt better than I remembered feeling, and that went a long way toward acceptance and even gratitude (not for having the disease in the first place, but for being better and for the surgeons and nurses who helped me get there).

Best of luck, and do feel free to ask away.... most of us are pretty clueless when we enter the ostomy world, but a lot of folks want to give back and help others, as others helped us.

Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure you will find you feel so much better without that diseased colon! And while the stoma care takes some adjustment, it quickly becomes routine, and it hasn't stopped me from doing anything - even going to the beach with my family next week! Let us know how you're doing, and ask questions - this group is incredibly knowledgable and helpful!
