I would like to know if their's a limit of days you can have your appliance with out changing it ? My doc told me that it should be 5 days, but I usually wear it 6 days and when I take it off it's very well secure and looks OK to be worn another 2 days at least.

Is there any problem having it for a longer time ? other than the possibility of leaks ?

thanks in advance.

I usually go 7 days, I don't know why you would have to change every 5 days. Changing too often can be bad for your skin.

I change my bag every day. My peristomal skin feels better for it; itches less.

PS: I wear 1-piece bags, but the one time I tried a 2-piece the wafer stuck on less well than the 1-pieces of the same brand and I kept on getting leaks with it. So I dunno, 2-pieces probably just aren't for me.

There's a balancing act... your skin gets "dirty", sloughing off dead skin cells and releasing oils and stuff, even when it's under the wafer, so it's good to remove the wafer and wipe it down (just plain water is fine) at regular intervals. On the flipside of the coin, as summerstorm said it's not good to change too frequently because often removing the adhesive can remove the top layer of skin with it and cause a little irritation.

I would say only you can know what's best for you. I believe that some of the manufacturers' instructions with extended wear flanges indicate up to 10 days of wear, so someone out there who has tested these things thinks that's OK.

I have the two pieces and I find I have to swap it out every 4-5 days. I tried to go six days last week and ended up springing a leak :/.

I have always used a one piece and I change every 2-3 days. I could go longer. But my work schedule determines it for me. I'm a truck driver who is on the road 5 days a week. So it depends on where I'll be and what my delivery schedule is. So I pick my changes to fit my schedule. I also do heavy lifting so I don't like to go too long, especially with the heat of summer. This is my second summer with an ileo so I have last year to go by. The second time around has been much easier. I think it actually sticks better in the summer. That was a big concern going into the first summer. Heat, sweat, causing a problem. It hasn't happened. But the 2-3 works so I'm sticking with it, even when I'm home.

Every Sunday and Wednesday my husband does a full change however he can and has gone up to a week with no problems. He just thinks/feels his skin behaves better with this schedule and likes to do the full shower with no appliance on. He does use the Smith and Nephew skin barrier prep in a pump spray which his skin seems to react to very well.
