i've been using coloplast sensura for 3 yrs now and have been very happy with it. wafer would hold for more than a week-10 days! i've been always using the skin prep and right after applying it, put the wafer on. now they changed the skin prep and it's not the same one. about 2 weeks ago i ran out of the old skin prep, so i had to use the new one. prob is the new one just doesn't do it's job well. it doesn't stick good enough and now the wafer holds for only 4 days tops.

i just finished changing after the wafer just fell off of me during shower. i had to change, but the stoma was very active with liquid output. the whole thing took me more than an hour, cuz the stoma kept pouring stools. i did the whole thing and it didn't stick at all, so i had to it all over again and AGAIN it didn't stick. the 3rd time it was better, but still i don't feel confident it will hold sad has this also happen to those of you who use coloplast? this is truly discouraging.

I used the Coloplast Sendura, and used Cavillon skin barrier and benzoin tincture swabs - worked awesome. The benzoin was definitely the key. I couldn't get the Friars Balsam that Polishdan always talks about, but found some on Amazon / they come in a white box with purple writing and are around $15 for 50 swabs. Before I used those I could barely get 2 days - after, I could easily get 4-5.

i'll see how i can get those. i'm from israel. most times they don't deliver or even if they will, the delivery will be too hight. but i'll try anyway.

meantime i called the company and a stoma nurse is supposed to get back to me. the represantative on the phone said the new skin prep is supposed to be better than the old one. i don't see how.. thanks Alison.

Sorry your struggling. Glad you called the companies stoma nurse. Things are trial and error, just because it's new and improved in their eyes doesn't mean it fits for everyone. I've used both the Cavillon and Medline's brand without any issues. DermaRite has StingFree. Hope you can find several samples and find one that works.

thanks windy and crohnie. the thing is, in israel we can order only from the 3 companies for free - coloplast, hollister and convatec. any other product from other companies we have to pay. i don't mind paying if it's a good product, but prob is this cavillon you're all talking about is not available here and this company won't deliver to israel. and even if they will, the delivery will cost too much.

but in any case, it is always good to know about names of products that work good, in case i somehow get a chance to get them. can you send me a link from where i can try order? just so i have it in case i find a way to get it.

I actually used both. I used the cavillon on top of the powder to form a crust over irritated skin, then benzoin around that to help stick. You could use just the benzoin, but it stings on raw skin and I was a wimp about it :)

I used to use Coloplast Sensura until the beginning of this year (and various Coloplast bags before then). For about 6 months previously my weartime had reduced from my normal 6 - 7 day weartime to only 2 - 3 days. I'd had enough! I experimented with different brands and eventually changed to Dansac around February this year and haven't had any problems since. I was so disappointed since I've been a Coloplast girl for 35 years but they just won't stick to me anymore like they used to.

Alison, i eventually called 3M today and turnes out they only have the cavilon, but are not familiar with benzoin. so the sails guy said he'll send me 3 cavilon lollipops (same as the wipes, just comes on a stick like an applicator) for free just to try before i buy. did you try the lollipops? he sais lollipops are more expensive but more efficiant as well. what do you think?

Shaz, could it be the reason it stopped sticking well for you, cuz of the same reason as mine - cuz of the new skin prep? cuz the only reason they don't stick well for me anymore is cuz of the new inefficiant skin prep. the old one came in a gray package and the new one is blue. i talked to coloplast and they say they changed the skin prep's formula. this new formula isn't good as the old one. we don't have Dansac here, so i'll just have to find a better adhesive than the new coloplast skin prep. i hope cavilon works for me.

also, today the wafer fell off again in the shower after only 2 days :( so today i tried hollister's adhesive spray. will know in a few days if it does a better job. but i so understand how you feel, after yrs of getting used to something that worked great, now it's disappointing. it is very discouraging. makes you lose your whole confidence you had so far. thats exactly how i feel too.

I like the wipes best. My concern with the applicator is that it could get dirty from being used on peristomal skin... The wipes here (I used Smith and Nephew mostly, but could never tell the difference between those and 3M) cost about $1 each, less in bulk, and you only need one per change.

Hubby uses the coloplast sensura and the skin prep he has had great luck with for a few years is Smith and Nephew brand and it comes in a pump spray bottle and seems to last quite awhile. He likes this better than using the wipes. He changes by choice on Wed and Sundays but he can easily go a full week with that set up. When he goes to remove the wafer it is still well adhered onto his skin. If you can somehow get that type of skin prep I think you will find it is quite compatible with the wafer.

Nah, I don't use skin prep so that can't be it in my case. The only thing I can put it down to is skin changes due to Menopause.

Hubby is allowed one bottle every 3 months of the spray and it lasts every bit of that and longer...I never really checked if it is 4 months or longer....and as I said he changes 2x each week. If you do get this and try it I hope it gives you the same success and wear time you were previously used to. Good Luck.

thanks so much guys! crohnie, the guy sent the lollipops. they will probably arive next week. but i'll go for the wipes, cuz all of you they're good and cheaper.

uc wife, if it lasts more than 4 mons with changing twice a week, if it holds a week, like it used to, it can last twice longer :) awesome!
