hydrogen peroxide 3% - a cap full in the bag (before the bag fills up) and there's no smell at all.

Devrom helps me and eliminates the smell. They are chewable tablets. I order them from my supplier, edgepark. Or u can order them at Devrom.com
End ileostomy due to colonic inertia and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Is it really that foul? I get a bit paranoid about the smell I leave behind after emptying the bags sometimes.

Also, if it's a colostomy I'm thinking it really should never smell, as you never have to drain or empty colostomy bags... :-/ The bags should contain the smell as long as they remain closed and don't leak. Do your mum's bags have a velcro tab at the bottom that you can open to drain the contents? (In which case they would be ileostomy bags, but you wouldn't be the first person to mix up colostomy and ileostomy if that were the case...)

Anyway, I can't give any suggestions, but this thread has given me the push to do something about neutralising the odour! Good luck with finding something which works.

I think Hodaya's post has a critical typo -- you mean a CAP fullnot a cup full in the bag, right? A cup would take up a lot of room.....

It seems more important that you get a nurse to help figure out what's going on.... it shouldn't smell that way, there must be some kind of leaking or a filter issue or something....

NCOT, you can use a drainable bag w/a colostomy.... the output there is thicker or thinner depending on how much colon is still left (and of course, depending on the person too). But colostomies do often smell worse than ileos, as the stool sits around in the colon longer ... in any case, neither should smell while in the bag.

If the smell is bothering individuals, you can put Vicks Vaporub under your nose above your upper lip. My former ostomy nurse gave me this tip. Of course this doesn't treat the smell in the house but if a person is caring for your mother and the smell makes them nearly gag, try Vicks. You want the original Vicks, that comes in a blue plastic jar (not the newer version that is a white unscented lotion).

I use Reliamed drops in my bag after emptying.  Works like a charm.  No odor at all....but...my hubby is a different story...he poops the natural way and BOY...you take your life in your hands following him out of the bathroom.

I find poo pourri works the best, just spray in toilet before emptying your pouch and it smells great, it comes in 4oz bottle so you can carry in your purse , l have one in my purse and one in the bathroom also comes in different scents.

I just found a place that sells poo pourri.  What scents do you like the best?  Thanks!
