Some of you know I had my colon and rectom removed in May.  I was left with a big open wound on my butt from where they removed the fistula tracks and my rectom. I havent had any problems untill a couple of days ago and my butt has been hurting. It seems to be filling in well and it has gotten smaller in size but there are some "stiches" actually its stiff,  like hard bristles on a scrub brush and they are poking me bad in the raw area causing alot of pain.  I havent noticed these before and I am wondering if they are just working their way out or are they supossed to stay in. I pulled on one last night and it came out real easy, I didnt pull hard cause I was afraid if it came out the hole would open back up.  it was real short , about 1 1/2 cm.   Does anyone know anything about this?

I Just tell myself, it could be worse !!!

T Jane, place a call over to the surgeon's office and ask if the sutures are supposed to be working their way out. The reason I am telling you this is that I had a minor surgical procedure on my arm last year. There were 3 internal, dissolvable sutures and 5 external sutures. The doc removed the external sutures about 10 days after the procedure. Four weeks later, the incision site looked mostly good but had a couple lumps that would open and ooze. Doc put me on antibiotics. Four weeks after that, these lumps got real fiery looking and I put warm soaks on them. They burst and out came all three internal sutures. Come to find out I am allergic to the coating on the sutures.

I hope all goes well.
CD for 25+ years; finally Dx 2004. SpA diagnosed soon after.
