I don't want to give the my entire history with Crohn's just yet, because it would take a real long time.
The answer I'm after is: How soon after I have had an ileostomy take down / reversal, can I have an ileostomy put back up?
I had the reversal done December 2013. I had a stoma for almost 4 years, due to rectal fistulas that developed from Crohn's. Did the reversal really for cosmetic reasons, & just wanted to get rid of the bag (even though I admit now that it wasn't all that bad to live with).
10 days after the reversal the fistula came back. Now I have setons & a mushroom drain for it. In tons of pain down there, & the uncontrollable BMs are keeping me prisoner in my home. I want my stoma back!
I only have 6 weeks left on leave of absence from work. I see my CR Surgeon next week (she's on vacay all this week & can't get hold of her) & I plan to plead with her to put my stoma back.
It's been approx 12 weeks since my reversal. Can it be done now? Has enough time passed?
I can't see myself being able to work like this, & my job is everything, as it provides the health insurance I need to battle my Crohn's.
Just anxious to know if I can have this done now.
Thanks... & if you're considering a reversal, please look into what it will be like, & compare to what life with a stoma is like. For me now the decision is clear. My stoma allowed me to have a life....
