I went in for surgery on February 10th. Everything seemed to be fine, first day liquids, second soft food, then third day they fed me a regular diet and sent me home after dinner. By the time I got 10 minutes from the hospital I was in excrutiating pain!!!!! My mom ended up taking me to another hospital closer to us, they gave me a morphine shot and sent me home. A few hours later the pain was back! It felt like my small intestine was bunching up and trying to explode through my abdominal wall
. My mom got ahold of one of my surgeons and then we made the trip from HELL, 45 minute drive in pain. It was so bad my mom thought I was going to pass out from the pain, or worse she really thought she was going to lose me on the drive.
We finally got back to Loma Linda and had to sit in the ER for another hour before one of my doctors came back and admitted me. Had a CT scan and they couldnt see anything wrong. I was on only IV fluids for 2 days, then liquids, soft foods and then a regular diet again. THe night of the regular diet they kept me for observation, thank goodness because the excrutiating pain was BACK!!!!! They hooked me back up to the morphine pump for the night.
I am now home after 10 days in the hospital on a "soft food" diet. Honestly I feel okay but I am scared to death to eat anything. I have been living on yogurt, apple sauce, baked potatoes, cream of rice and ensure and boost for the past 3 days I have been home.
Has anyone else experienced this? My doc says usually people are fine by day 3 and can go back to eating somewhat normally.
Just to be clear I dont have an ostomy, he reconnected my lower intestine to my rectum. I really just don't know what to do at this point. I have lost 15lbs in as many days, yet I do not want to have to go through that pain again.
