So I've been dropping weight since my last surgery (and getting off of TPN). Probably around 12 pounds so far. I'm not complaining, since I need to lose weight.

I've losing weight faster than my skin can adapt though so I'm getting wrinky skin! Like a deflated balloon. On top of that it looks like someone took a back ho to my peristomal skin...it's like a big crater!

Any tips on how to deal with the wrinkles?

Just wondering if you're dehydrated. A thought..... otherwise, no ideas, sorry.
50 years old, female. Sick for way too long with Crohn's (or possibly UC) Proctocolectomy and permanent ileostomy in Feb 2011. Surgery for lingering perineal wound Sept 2011. All healed up now. Healthier than I ever expected to be again...

Nope, output has been good. I'm not feeling any of the other affects that I've come to expect with dehydration. I think it's a real weightloss. Thanks for the suggestion though, dehydration is a big problem.

Any recent blood work? Just wondering if something is off.

Do you have short bowel now? If so, you'd need more calories to maintain....

Seems worth talking to a medical person about....

I know my calorie intake is lower than it needs to be. I don't have much appetite. I'm so sick of the GI Soft diet after 8 months! And I need to lose weight. I've been trying to keep my protein intake up with protein shakes.

I've been thinking about getting my blood work for anemia though. I also have an apt. with one of my surgeons on March 11, so we'll see if she yells at me or not.

Oh yeah, I don't have short bowel syndrome. I'm missing about 16 inches, but my surgeon's tell me that's not enough to impact my nutrition (because of the locations and the amounts).

Have you tried benecalorie or one of the other high protein supplements? It has 330 calories in just 1.5 ounces.

Understand about gi soft getting tiring.....

Very often, loose and wrinkly skin is the one negative side effect to losing extra weight. When we gain weight, the skin stretches out...and in general, over time, skin starts to lose some of it's elasticity. That means it isn't going to completely shrink up or snap back into place once weight is lost. Exercising could help tighten it up somewhat....toning, and strength training type stuff.

I found this article that might be helpful to you as well. Good luck!
