So my home care nurse believes that the red/raw skin around the edge of my stoma could be a yeast infection due to ALL the antibiotics I've been on since surgery (over a months worth IV and Oral). She had my doc call in Nystatin Powder, has anyone had success with this for possible yeast infections on the skin?

Thanks
Gordon

I used it for thrush after an intense treatment with antibiotics and it worked really well. I ended up having to take diflucan regardless because the infection was way beyond the throat. I was taking double strength tablets, multiple pills, multiple times a day for months. I needed something heavy duty to wipe it out. I would think it should help for what you describe. If it seems more systemic you should get the pills - you have been on a lot of antibiotics...

I've used it near my stoma -- was a fairly mild issue, but cleared it up right away. You use it like stoma powder -- put skin prep on top. Worth a try.

I've used it as well. Easy, painless, and it worked pretty quickly if I remember.

I second the oral diflucan. I had yeast around my stoma and it needed a combination of diflucan and nystop powder..

I'll have to see about an oral med as well. I just put on the Nystatin for the first time this morning and crusted it pretty well. Should I change my bag more often for powder application now?

My yeast infection seems to be getting better when I change my bag every other day. If the area around my stoma starts to burn I know the seal has failed at the yeast infection. Mine is getting better but it is taking a bit of time. I put the Nystatin on and blow the excess off. Then I use a light amount of spray barrier seal on top. I dry that with a low power hair dryer. Works great.

I'm changing over to a different appliance to make sure that doesn't have anything to do with my skin. I'm using the ConvaTec moldable currently and I'm going to a Hollister Convex precut two piece and see how that goes. My nurse is trying to get oral meds
