With my old stoma, paste wasn't part of my routine, but I'm finally figuring out a fairly product-heavy routine with this new stoma that gives me 3-4 days wear time. Paste is part of the mix (tried without it, and I lose a day....).

I've only used the convatec stomahesive paste. Usually a nurse has given me a tube after applying it once. But about halfway through, the tube dries out enough that I can't get it out . I also have a place that's not home where I occasionally need to change, and I can't seem to keep a tube of paste there -- it just dries out (I tried digging a few days ago, and was able to get out some overly thickened paste, with a lot of work).

So I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious about keeping the paste from drying out (I do close the cap and roll up the tube) or if there's another brand that works as well but doesn't dry out so much, and maybe is a bit less annoying to use, as it's hard to get the right amount of this paste where I want it and nowhere else.

Thanks.

i buy the nuhope paste strips. those were always easy for me. Not sure if you can use them exactly like standard paste, my paste dried out and I never got to try it.

Are those different from the barrier rings? I use the paste under an adapt ring. I have some brava strip paste, but it's kind of like a long version of the ring material. Thanks.

It's just a straight piece of paste, like a ring but not a circle. I would form it in a little circle and place a eakin ring on top. For some reason that would give me 2-3 days wear time instead of 1 day. My loop was really difficult to manage.

Sounds worth a try. I have a bunch of strip paste, and it is much easier to use than the paste in a tube. I wonder if it's just giving more convexity .... really isn't clear to me why the paste helps w/me. My nurse suggested using it where I was having leaks. That didn't help, but I switched brands of wafers, which took care of the leaks. Noticed that my skin was completely clean where the paste was, which was better than the rest, so tried it all around, and it gives me 3-4 days instead of 2-3 (changing brands moved me from 1-2 to 2-3).

thanks

A little trick the nurse taught me is to drop the tube of paste in a cup of hot water while you shower or whatever and it will soften up and works great. This makes it very easy to get out of the tube, almost too easy, so squeeze gently. Lol :)
