I june I had surgery for ulcerative colitis. which they removed part of my colon and I have a bag now.I was very sick lost 45lbs. in 3 weeks before they finally did the surgery and was in hospital for a month with infections of the incision and abcess. now they say they might be able to reverse it, but they have to remove more of the disease that they couldnt take out the first time. I nearly died during the surgery. this would mean 2 or 3 surgerys. has anyone had the reversal done? Is there any complications with it. Iam seeing the two surgeons on the 14th of nov. to talk about the pros and cons. can anyone help me on this matter

I also have an ileostomy as a result of a sub total colectomy. I had to have 2 operations a few days apart because the amount of colon they left the first time developed a perforation and had to be removed during the second surgery. I lost about 30 lbs in 2 weeks and have managed to gain about 7 of it back so far. I have not had the reversal done but it should be performed sometime in December. My surgeon said that at first I would have bm's a lot and that it should taper to 4-5 per day in a few weeks. She said that in about 2 years they should be down to about 2 per day. My biggest obsticle so far is being able to get my flange to seal for more than a couple of days. I don't know what will be worse, the bm's or the leaking flange. I have yet to talk to someone who has had this done and has been living with it for a while. Maybe someone will respond and we can both get a better understanding of what it to come. Good luck and God bless!

Thanks frank for the info.I went to the ulcerative colitis forum first and posted there. If you want to check that forum. I did get an answer from Bundie there. He had the reversal 17 years ago. you can read what he wrote me there.
