I am traveling and staying in a hotel for the first time with my ileostomy. I am curious what others use for covering the stoma when they are changing wafers and/or pouches.

I was taught in the hospital to use wash clothes but quickly got tired of washing crap. So I have been using damp paper towels. Is this bad? And should I take an entire roll for a 3 night stay? I usually only need 2 - 3 sheets during a change but that's with ideal times and circumstances.

Feel free to groan and declare me a moron [to yourself please] when you read this.
Thanks!

Not a dumb question at all. How long are you there for? I went on a trip and I didn't want to change the setup so I ended up changing it right before I left, and I didn't change the whole time. My trip was only 3 nights though, so that's easier. I always kept a roll of paper towels with my ostomy supplies, but I wouldn't want to carry one in a suitcase, so I'd probably peel off 10 or so and sit them flat. Better to have too many than not enough, but I am sure you can get napkins or paper towels on the trip if you need. I also wouldn't eat too much before a change in order to make sure there wasn't a lot of output, and I'd do it first thing in the morning when things were somewhat empty. With the loop, it's harder because mine never stopped and I only got 1-2 days wear time between changes.

they also sell those wet wipes for ostomy. Look it up, they are pretty convenient.

I use kleenexes. Great size and soft on the soma. I also use them to clean my bag after emptying. Hotels always have tissues, or you could pack a box.

I use the 4x4 squares of the soft absorbant gauze. I was using paper towels but it was a pain to keep a roll on the bathroom. Plus the gauze feels better on my skin.

I always took marshmallows with me to eat to help with the output. I did bring a roll of paper towels- that’s what I was using st home and it was just more convenient for me. Better to have a whole role and more than you need on hand!

I use witch-hazel wipes or pads...dont make your stoma itch...
Usually eat a output thickener like marshmallows to quiet things,
anything escapes, paper towels or a bed pad as an apron works...
