My husband is indefinitely getting surgery...just waiting to align some things work wise before he can take the time off. I’m just wondering if anyone recommends (or likewise, doesn’t recommend) surgeons to do the ostomy/j-pouch surgery? We are Just outside of Toronto, but willing to go where the best treatment is. I just want this to go as smooth as possible for him. <3

My DH has suffered long enough under bad doctors, lack of proper care from nurses, and hellish long drives to get any decent treatment.

I do know Dr. Zane Cohen, was quoted as the “The Godfather of Colorectal Surgery” who unfortunately retired but I'm sure he would of trained a few good surgeons under him. Mount Sinai hospital would be where his apprenticed surgeons should be out of.

And I'd say the opposite of Virdent and stay the heck away from Sinai! That's based on my horrid experience going on 2 years now with several surgeons (Including Cohen) . I'm in the process of traveling to another province to get the help I'm entitled to. But everyone is different and if your Dh's surgery is straight forward then Sinai may be ok. They really love taking out colons theresmile

IMHO- I'd seek out St. Mikes....or at least I'd get a couple of referrals and interview your potential CRS. Either way though the wait list in Toronto is huge....6-7 months and quite a few months to actually have surgery scheduled.

Oh wow! Thanks for the input.

I looked up the surgeon he had a consultation with last hospital visit, dr. Helen macrae. She’s rated #3 on ratemds.com hoping she does a fine job.

I wish his UC was more like his cousins symptoms, and just a more “annoyance” than (quality of) life threatening. Alas, surgery is the only route when you’re this bad.
