I am fairly new to my ostomy as well. My surgery was Feb 22 2021. I only had 2 semi regular bowel movements after surgery and all my doctors told me it was normal. I had a complete resection and after what was
" left" over in my colon emptied I have not passed any thing through that location. I was on pain for several weeks after my surgery and have developed massive ventral hernias as well as peri umbilical. I'll need at least 4 or 5 more surgeries and now they've also found cancerous tumors all over. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced severe difficulty in finding a doctor who can and will continue to prescribe supplies? My surgeon said she does not do anything at all with supplies and she and her staff understand nothing about the supplies I needed a GI. So, I ask my GI who said sure we do that. Well it took over a month and a half of begging, calling, med supply Co calling, emailing, other doctors offices calling and my insurance calling to finally get my 1st supplies. I got my 2nd round of supplies 2 months after the 1st round and had to meet a stranger offline in the next state over from an ostomy support group for supplies while waiting as I can't afford to pay out of pocket. Now it's been almost another 2 months I have not received any more supplies and my GI medical assistant said they also cannot continue to write for supplies as the doctor knows nothing about them? Mind you I never called until my medical supply company began calling me and telling me unless the doctors office replies with the information that my supplies would be on hold. Now, they've said they can't do ostomy supplies because the GI doesn't understand what to do. So, I'm being referred to another GI. How's this one going to be any different? My PCP has no clue what to do for supply orders either. Has anyone else had nothing but trouble with their Dr's and getting supplies regularly? I've gotten supplies 3 times only since February 22 2021 and it's Nov 20th 2021. What type of doctor should I see? I'm at a loss and without supplies and my GI could care less. I've had to sleep in my bathtub with a garbage bag taped to me constantly and cannot continue chemotherapy until I have the proper supplies for my ostomy. I'm I'm NW Indiana if anyone else is close and can recommend a doctor who can and will continue to update my supply company so I may receive supplies regularly. Also , you can ask your surgeon if the type of pain your experiencing is normal and as time passes if it does not lessen in severity I'd definitely contact your surgeon. I wish you the best and welcome to the wonderful world of ostomies!
