It's sad to see, as despite my anger at having a stoma, this board was a huge help to me in the past. Ironically enough, after a reversal lasting for seven years, I've decided to go back to an ileostomy - for life this time. I'll be having my rectum removed so no chance of another reversal. But I'm okay with that. To be honest, there were many advantages to having a stoma that I didn't appreciate at the time. The only thing I'm rather dreading is the hospital stay itself and the time it takes for everything to completely heal and adapt. For example, I eventually got to the point of being able to sleep through the whole night without needing to get up to empty the bag, but it did take about a year if memory serves.

Just wish forums hadn't died out. Creepy Facebook is not an acceptable substitute. I'll look for other ostomy communities but without much expectation of success - people don't seem to form personal communities the way they did pre social media.

Meanwhile if anyone does need help with anything ostomy related, I will help if I can.

NCOT,

It is slow answering in this forum. I really wish people would come back.

If you have any questions let me know.

Never fear oldmike is still here, rectal stump and all.
The problem with facebook post is that, anything important gets buried
in about an hour or so,depending on the group. But I learn a lot
anyhow, especially with peoples problems,or how they got into this mess.
Lots of bag tips for people also. My stoma and bag works fine.
I see a lot of diversion colitis going on,which the medical community has not
really solved yet, other than cut out the rectum,AKA Barbie Butt.

I was lurking and I saw you had your surgery! Congrats! I hope you're recovering well. I'm sorry to hear about your dad passing.

I'm on reddit.com/r/ostomy for support. I don't have a stoma right now but I had 4 total and it's a comfort to know that I can always go back to a stoma if I need to. I had my jpouch since 2019 and it was redone in 2021. I'm doing a round of antibiotics for an unrelated infection but it has helped my jpouch in the past so I'm looking forward to it.
