hi
i am new to this forun. I had a total colectomy 7 years ago. I am still adjusting to all of it. I am finally figuring out what to eat, meds to take, and just overall how to take care of myself. If anyone has any advice on what in general foods, drinks, meds, and just behaviors work best for them, that would be great. thanks so much for everything.

We are all different.  I can eat anything and everything with no problem.  Some ostomates end up having to restrict certain foods others don't.  I wish I could offer you more help but I think you have already figured out what foods work for you and what foods to avoid. As for meds and fiber, I don't take either.

By now you've probably worked it all out for yourself after 7 years :) You'll have worked out what foods work for you and the ones that don't. As Sue said everyone is different. Like her I can eat anything I like, even peanuts, corn, mushrooms, etc but I know others who can't.

With meds, you should avoid time released meds as they are made to be absorbed by the large intestine, which of course, we are lacking. Liquid meds actually work the best for us.

What sort of behaviours are you wondering about? You must be doing ok to have gotten this far?
I have had an ileostomy for 30 years now due to UC.
