Do you have a j-pouch now?
I know that not eating makes things worse with a j-pouch.
Have you tried an elimination diet? The biggest culprits for gas are carbhoydrates (breads). I had severe gas after surgery and had to eliminate all wheat products for about six weeks and the difference was amazing. Do you take probiotics? You might find that adding probiotics (good bacteria) to your gut will help offset the bad bacteria and settle the gas issue. I take PB-8, Culturelle is good too.
