I am fixing to have my surgery to get my colon out next week (WOO HOO!) to cure my UC..  FOr those of you who had the surgery for that reason I have a question.
Before I got sick, I had beautiful skin, I had a dark complexion, I looked tan even in the winter and it was very smooth and unblemished.  In the summer I was super dark and I never ever burned.  then I got sick and I lost all my color, my husband says I look like a vampire!  I harldy tan at all, and I burn so easy, it's crazy!
My hair was super thick and shiny and now it's all scraggly and icky looking.
And my eyes were bright and shiny, now they look dull and have big old nasty bags under them.
So if any of you had those problems, did the surgery fix them?
(Please say yes, even if it isn't true!)

After your surgery it's safe to say that your health will be returned to you and yes, you should regain your look prior to your illness. Whenever your body is using all it's resources to combat an illness, it's taking those resources away from other areas. Think of it as government.

dx proctitis in 1987
dx UC in 1991, was stable until 1998
1998 started prednisone, asacol, pentasa, nortriptylene, ativan, 6MP, rowasa enemas and suppositories, hydrocortisone enemas, tried the SCD diet, being a vegetarian, omega 3s, flax, pranic healing, yoga, acupuncture, probiotics
2000 lost all my B-12 stores and became anemic
2001 opted for j-pouch surgery- now living life med-free

I was on Asacol pred and Immuran and then 6mp. And now I am on nothing because I am CURED, woohoo! And my skin does look a thousand times better, it looked better a few days after surgery. My hair is still icky, it's getting over the week in the hopstial where it didn't get washed, yuck! I think that the meds probably did have something to do with it. I am hoping for a tan, I haven't been outside any yet since my surgery but I will be out there tanning soon!
