confused   Why Why WHYYYYY???? confused
Hey y'all...   It has been a bit since I have been around.
Had my total colectomy in September with a few complications, but I have never been more happy about a decision before.  Life with being able to go when I need to is just wonderful.
I went from going about once a month to about 3-5 times a day, and it is simply wonderful.
I have alot of bloating and fatigue and upset stomache when I eat off my diet, but I can live with that in order to feel as much better as i do.
MY PROBLEM is that in the last 2 months, with NO change in my diet, I have suddenly begun to pack on the pounds.  I mean like 25 lbs in 2 months.  My thyroid is fine, but what the heck???
Not only that but I have been plauged by acne like  a teenager.....   What is going on here?
Any of you had similar problems?  Any explanations?  Suggestions?
I don't even know how to proceed from here....

A lot of ostomates tend to gain weight easily after surgery. The only explanation I can think of is that now we are absorbing our nutrients rather than losing them all down the loo!
I have had an ileostomy for 31 years now due to UC.

Hi Vandgsmom,
I do not have any answers as to why you have gained so much weight after surgery. After my surgery I lost 30 pounds the first three weeks. I am holding this weight loss. I know how you feel about suddenly gaining weight though. In 2002 I put on 65 pounds within a few short months. I account it to a putuitary gland problem I had. I could not loose. But after this surgery I did loose the 30, but I still need to loose 35 more pounds.

My diet has changed for the better since surgery. I informed both my surgeon and PCP that I no longer eat sweets or drink soda. I used to also chew bubble gum by the loads and now I can't even stand that. I even have taking up drinking water and lots of it. Both doctors are happy with that. Otherwise I eat what I want to.
