Another first since surgery a year ago. I am going to the beach and of course have questions. I think about the salt water being all over the bag and not getting it rinsed off well. Will it cause itching and or seap in little crevices in wafer? Not even sure I will be comfortable in bathing suit. I ordered 1 size bigger to hopefully conceal bag better. Any input would be appreciated.

I had an Ilesostomy 35 years ago (whew!) and love the ocean. No special problems except that if I'm doing body surfing and messing around in waves alot I frequently check to make sure everything's secure. As for bathing suits, back when I had it to show off I wore one-piece suits with some puckering or pleats around the ostomy site. I even found a two piece suit that had a high waist and high-cut legs that was neat. Now I wear the trunk-like suits that cover the tops of my thighs-not because of the ostomy but becuase I do daily injections for multiple sclerosis and cause lumps and bumps. My water fun has been curtailed by MS, not my ostomy.

I've swam in the ocean and found no difference to swimming in my parents' pool. Everything stayed in place like it should and I had a wonderful time.
I have had an ileostomy for 31 years now due to UC.

I'm not a complete idiot - some parts of me are missing!
