I had a proctocolectomy with an ileostomy on June 19th. Things went pretty good. However I developed a wound that was 5 x 5 x 1 on the right side and underneath my stoma. My surgeon debrided the area and a wound vac is now in place. The wound is definately better, probably half the size in about
2 weeks time. Well today the home health nurse was here to change the wound vac and now I have another "hole" beneath my stoma on the abdomen about
the size of a dime and about
3 inches deep. The nurse pushed on in and squeezed a ton of pus out of the hole. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and what has been the outcome. My surgeon thinks the entire problem was caused by poor blood flow to the abdomen site because of a previous C-Section. I have to change my appliance every 2 days because that is how frequently they are changing the wound vac. It gets tricky applying the appliance over the wound vac area because it is right by my stoma. I mean half of my stoma is normal attached to the abdomen and the other half is attached to nothing.... because there is nothing there.
I would love to here from anyone that has experienced this and how you dealt with it.
Other than is problem I "love" the stoma. Its a breeze to take care of and I can eat and not get sick. I'm just concerned about the wounds....
