I hope your son finds relief.  I was diagnosed with colonic inertia in 2002.  I have never heard of anal leakage or an odor...maybe he should get a second opinion on that.  How has the laxative/enema regimen working?  I am up to 4 enemas every other water bag enemas.  Citrate of Magnesium doesn't work for me anymore.  I am considering the total colectomy.  I am only 26 and am worried about it.  I have a daughter who is only 10mths. My constipation has gotten worse since i had here.  Keep me posted on your son.

I'm going to go through your questions one at a time. For me, I've never had any kind of leakage. Could it have been that he thought he was passing gas and wasn't? If I'm reading your post correctly, if he takes the stool softener and laculose he has between 2 and 4 BM's a week? If that's the case, I think that's great! The stool softener and lactulose can be taken longterm and will hopefully continue working for him. Also, if he's like the normal teenager, he probably doesn't get enough water. Another thing you might want to try is FiberSure or something similar. Most kids don't eat enough fiber and that might help him without making his BM's too loose.

Breast Cancer at 36. Diagnosed in 2000. Bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction.
Status post colon resection, but now heading towards a total colectomy in September.
Son diagnosed with Crohn's at 17 (now 20). Taking Asacol and 6MP with Prednisone and Rowasa added during flareups.
