I have the appointment with the surgeon tomorrow to discuss my options left after newly being diagnosed with colonic inertia. No one has responded about any information between these two surgeries (subtotal and total colectomy)? Although I am a nurse I know nothing about this stuff. I only know cancer. The more I read on this site, the more I am scared to have the surgery. It seems so many of you are happy that you did it, but still having so many complications. The last seven years has been awful and I cannot imagine it getting any worse, but surgery is something foreigh to me. I never thought I would actually be discussing this option. If any of you have any advice on what to ask him or on the difference between these two surgeries I would greatly appreciate it. Should i get more than one opinion? Is this a small surgery and I should not be worried about it so much? I am from Michigan and we have a great hospital here, but should I travel elsewhere? So confused and nervous

Sorry for your dx'd. I have been dx'd w/ colonic inertia too. Did the sitz marker test and had 23 of the 24 markers still in my colon after 5 days. I am having the total colon removed.

My pelvic function is fine so the surgeon will hook my small intestines to my rectum muscle. I can't live like this anymore so this surgery is saving my life. I am so looking forward to getting it. I know it'll be a few weeks of recovery but I'm hoping to be a new woman after all that.

well i dont' know what colon interia is, but i know that life is ten thousand times better not being sick!
you might have some problems, but they are usually not nearly as bad as being sick, and are resolved quickly

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Me! I too just finished the sitz marker and I had all 24 left in my colon (It was my second time, I do not do it correctly the first). I also had agastric emptying test with an egg sandwich, and a EGD all in the last month. I am just nervous about this decision. I do not want to live like this, but I am assuming this is a rather big surgery. I have not had any pelvic floor testing, but maybe that is next. I do not know anything about this surgeon and everyone at works thinks I should see at least two before making a decision. Do you think this is necessary? My GI refferred him so I am assuming that he is the best! I am just doing a lot of assuming and it makes me nervous. How long was it after meeting with your surgeon that you had the surgery? I know the recovery time is probably different for everyone, but did he tell you any of that information?

Sorry for all the questions.

Liz
