Just curious, has any one had problems eating meat? I had some sloppy joes the other night and my output had a real hardy beef smell to it. I was wondering if anyone else has had any thing like that happen to them. I can eat chicken and fish with no smell but the beef was a different story. It's nothing major mind you but I was only curious. :-)

Hi Clyde01, Ieat alot of chicken and fish, but I did notice that if I eat roast beef sandwhich it had a real beefy smell to it also. so what I do is use my crock pot, its much easier on the digestive track and leaves less of an oder maybe becauase its slow cooked throughout the day. Maybe some how you can improvise with a slow cooker. I just think that some meats are harder to break down in our systems now that we are altered. Goodluck, Bluz :-)

Clyde01- I love the fact that you bring that up. I am 8 weeks post surgery and I find that beef does not process through as well. We had pulled pork bbq the other night and it smelled almost the same as it exited as it did when it entered. Grape juice has the same effect as well. I do not understand why it does that, and I didn't want to ask anyone if that is normal. So thanks for bringing it up.

Mmmm - grape juice smells pretty good, maybe I should drink more of that! LOL. I have notice this phenomenon - somtimes the food even LOOKS the same as it did going in. Especially veggies. Ick.

I have to ask.....how in the heck do you eat fish without a smell????? If I eat fish, I have to throw out my bag the next morning! I'll smell like salmon for a week..YUCK! As far as beef, I do not eat much red meat. I live on chicken and fish. If I do not feel like eating meat for dinner, I have soup.

i eat fish a good bit, workign at a fish camp and all, but it doesn't smell up that bad. Although if i eat roast beef, i can smell it, i even feel like i smell it in my sweat or something, it's just strong to me.
Peaches and cream smell the same coming out, lol

Another thing I noticed last night, I ate some of my grand mothers home-made chicken salad. This morning when I mt'd out my bag it smelled something awful, like rotten eggs. Oh man was it awful!! ;) I know next time not to eat anything that has eggs in it. LOL

Clyde,
Do you use any type of deodorizer in your pouch?

Eggs and Fish and cabbage family veggies do that to me also Clyde.  And certain spices.  But, add a deodorizer to your pouch, and just go ahead and enjoy eating them.   Believe me, normal people have some of those issues too!!!  No reason NOT to enjoy the foods you like because of smell.  skull

I will confess that I always use a deodorizer in my pouch so that I can eat those types of foods WHENEVER I want.

I have a Hollister one piece bag with the filter on it but have not tried a deoderizer yet. I don't mind the smell some much I just imagine that it came out the back end and kinda laugh about it. I do rinse out my bag after the contents are out to try and keep the smell down. Plus its nice to have a clean bag for future contents to enter into.

Clyde,

I do the same thing --- "rinse and repeat" I call it!  Esp if I am eating any odory foods.  That is my ostomy's shower since I don't remove my bag to take my shower.  There are a lot of good deodorizers out there.  A lot of folks here just use a cap of hydrogen peroxide ....

see "Odor" w/ the last post date of 10/14

see "Smell" w/ the last post date of 9/1

Lots of good conversation re: deodorizers in those 2 threads!

Best of luck to you.  Keep experimenting!

soemthign else you can do, that i never even thought of until last night, is like if you eat soemthing smelly, like tartar sauce i love it and it does make it smelly, or fish, eat some fresh pineapple if you can, and then your stuff smells like pineapple. Which is much more pleasant.
