Has anyone ever attempted to use Cymed Micro Skin products?  I just got the wafers and bags in the mail today.  However, since I just changed my appliances yesterday, I cannot attempt to use the Micro Skin for at least 5-6 days.  I just thought I would ask this forum before I ventured into unknown territory.

I forgot all about Cymed. I used to have patients that wouldn't even try anything else. Let us know how you like them. I think I'll order a sample.

Amey ----

New wafer, possible 7 days wear time and you are going to rip it off!!!!! How dare you?? (just kidding --- you go girl!)

p.s. 7 days for me tomorrow morning.... may push it til weekend, no "itchies" yet, and I am pretty sore from shoulder therapy today anyway.

Peggy...I did it! I pulled off my perfect wafer and traded it in for the Cymed ((I am hanging my head in shame)). I tried using an Eakin and past with the Cymed but that was impossible. They are so thin that anything behind the wafer prevents the wafer from creating a good seal on your skin ( I should have read the instructions first... no pastes or seals should be used). I took another Cymed with me while I went out shopping. I was not about the rip it off after I just put it on. That Cymed lasted me about 5 hours before the stools leaked. I put the new Cymed on in the bathroom at the mall with no pastes or seals. I am not sure this will last long either but I really wanted to try them. They are VERY comfortable and flat. I feel like I am not wearing anything at all.

Ash83,

I'm with you.. I can't imagine changing it out in a public restroom like that.  I too lay out my "stuff", but I suppose if I had to do it, I'd find a shorter method, probably without as good a cleaning or the paste, just to make do til I could do it "right".  Well, thinking about it, I'm sure I could if I had to.  What would be the alternative.  Amey always has her supplies with her too.

Keep in mind that Amey's output is not the usual ileostomy output either.  So she can be a quick change artist!

Amey,

Please keep us updated on your opinion of the Cymed.  I'm curious to hear if you like it and if it "sticks" for you.

Ash,
With Cymed you cannot use the normal prep supplies. You just cut, stick and go...(and of course say a prayer that your stool doesn't eat through the wafer that is as thin as plastic wrap, literally). Changing was a huge pain! I had already pre-cut the wafer so I just needed to stick it on. However, since I had just changed that morning and I applied an Eakin seal, the Eakin was stuck to my skin like glue. The only thing I had to remove the Eakin was tp. Unfortunately, the more I wiped the Eakin off the more the tp suck to the Eakin. So, I was sitting in this stall with Eakin, tp, and poop stuck to my skin. What to do? I need some adhesive wipes...but, DUH, they were in the car in the parking lot. So, I tried the next best thing...spit (it was all I had). I tried to spit on the tp and see if the moist tp would wipe the Eakin off. That helped a little. Then I just scaped the rest off my with fingernails. Finally, when I got as much off as I could I just stuck the new wafer on and applied the bag. PHEW! I was finished. Now, I am going to bed with this new bag and wafer but I am REALLY NERVOUS! I put plastic all over my mattress and I put towels down on my side of the bed. I really like this bag so I am trying to make this work.

Trust me Ash, if you ever need to change in a public bathroom, you will be able to figure out what to do. You'd be amazed at how creative you can get.

OK, I made it until 1am and then...LEAK. I cannot wait for those of you who ordered samples to get your supplies in the mail and let me know how long you make it with this system. Right now, I have been able to wear it for 9 hours. I am sure my time will be easy to beat.

Well, I'm not so sure I'm going to try it if you only got 9 hours out of it. I'm not going to chance having a leak away from home, and not home very many hours these days. So what's with their advertisements showing all the sports figures wearing them? Maybe because they're so low profile you can't see them under the biking shorts, lol, I'm sure most races are under 9 hours.

A Cymed nurse sent me an email...here is what she said

Hi, thank you for contacting us. You have made a good choice, however you will not need paste with Cymed MicroSkin. We do make a product a lot like the Eakin seal (Cymed Seal) which will work very well with our product. You can always add washers(wafers) or the Cymed seal as needed to build up the area around the stoma to give you extra protection and longer wear time. My name is Pamela, I am a customer care rep. responding to your email. Feel free to call us @ 1-800-582-0707 or go to our website to see the products that might suit your needs.cymed-ostomy.com

Ash,

You've got to experiment a little. Otherwise, you might miss out on something great. The Cymed was very low profile and sleek. What I liked best was the wafer was as thin as plastic wrap. So, I could remove the bag and put a cap on top of the sheer wafer. Then when I was done wearing the cap, I could but the bag back on top. This makes intimate time so nice. My hubby liked not having my bag in the way. A small cap feels almost like nothing. Just order a sample and try it. You never know; you just might like them.

Ash,

The entire wafer is about as thin as plastic wrap. It is very discrete. Probably more discrete than any other wafer made. I cannot tell you how the samples arrive because I bought mine over the internet. To give you an example, I fit the wafer and pouch in my back pocket when I was wearing a pair of tight jeans. I have never been able to do that before. If you want to know what it is like put the plastic wrap that you use to cover foods on your belly and see how thin that is.

I hope this helps.

Ladies, Edgepark can send you a catalog that has products from Hollister, ConvaTec, Coloplast, Cymed, New Hope, Torbot, etc. I use it to look up products and then order through my Insurance vendor - Sterling Medical. The hospital gave me the first catalog and then the wound center I go to gave me the new 2008. It's a nice catalog. Good pictures, prices, descriptions. Coloplast has a nice two piece wafer sytem that sits snuggly to your body - Assura. I use EasiFlex Convex Light Precut 1 1/8" barrier # 146440 and Assura AC Ileo Max Classic #143620. The pouch adheres to the wafer with a special adhesive. It neve came loose or leaked. Also, the Sensura is Coloplast's newest line for people with sensitive skin. It's supposed to help your skin breath better. Now comes in 2 piece system. Seems to be nice! I've had no luck with ConvaTec or Hollister because of sensitive skin.

You can go to Edgpepark's Website (www.edgepark.com) and order a catlog or here's additional info:

Ash,

I use Hollister and I always use the powder and no-sting prep under my wafer. It helps me to keep the itches away. I do not use the ConvaTec skin prep (little green packet) because my skin breaks out in bumps. I am surprised that ConvaTec sent you pre-cut and then wanted you to build up the wafer with paste. That is crazy. Ileostomy stool eats through paste. That would never last you very long and may irritate your skin. I have never requested samples from Convatec because the hospital sent me home with pre-made ConvaTec kits. Too bad for me, I am allergic to anything made by that company. Hollister and Coloplast were both super nice. I have tried both of their products and I settled with the Hollister. However, the Coloplast Assura is very comfortable. But, I just like that I can inter-change my bags more often with Hollister because they have a variety of bag sizes.

I hope you get your samples soon. They usually send them 2-day mail.

i just ordered some samples too, but i will probaby be too scared to try it, lol. Plus we had this flexcare spending thing, where we had to spend all the money we had put on it by the end of this year so we ordered about six months worth of stuff from hollister!
I use the hollister two piece and when i was using the skin prep it was coming loose everytime i got it wet. Now i don't use anything and it works fine.

I have the 2-pc system. Did you order your samples through the website. Go to the Cymed website and order your samples there (even if you alreay did it once) and see if you get them in a week or so.

Well my 1 sample arrived today! Lol I was anticipating that they'd send more than that, but it's better than nothing. I'm so excited because it's almost identical to the Convatec 1 piece I use now, just a little thinner and discrete. I'm not comfortable with the tail closure they sent, so I'm just going to use the Convatec clip with it instead.

I plan on trying it out tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I have on the Cymed Microskin One piece system w/o the washer. I think it's great. I to don't like the tail closure that comes w/the bags.Mine leaked some deodrant drops so I switched it to the CONVATEC clamp closer. I only got two sample from Cymed. The other bag has the washer built into it which I cant use as my colostomy is in a bad spot in a crease below my ribs in the transverse colon.Mine is called a transverse loop colostomy. So far so good. The bag is staying & I used an Eakin seal by mistake around my wafer. I just read a little bit ago that your not suppose to use any extra supplies when you put the bag over your stoma.
