Had my first post op doctor visit yesterday.

My small intestines have been spasming and hurts really bad. The doctor said ppl w/ a history of IBS sometimes have problems with the intestines doing that.

He said it might dissipate over time. He gave me some medicine that relaxes the intestines. It has helped. It knocks me out so I'm sleeping a lot more.

Anyone have bad abdominal pain after surgery?

(I do not have a bag. The doctor left 3 inches of my colon and reconnected everything to my rectum) I have been going to the bathroom fine. Everything is great except for the pain. Had surgery Oct 22.

What medicine are you taking. Bentyl and Reglan both have neurological effects and can make you feel tired. Try taking 1/2 the pill and see if that helps. Also, sometimes the side effects will lessen as your body adapts to the medication. There are some natural remedies you could try..peppermint tea is a big help for relaxing the intestines. You can find more remedies by doing a Google search.

I hope you feel better.

Dang, Amey!  You beat me to it!   Just exactly what I was gonna recommend.

Cutting doses in 1/2 can help relieve some of those side effects (making sure the pharmacists says it is ok to cut the pills - I have done that with the Bentyl and the Reglan, both).  Bentyl worked really well for me when I needed it.  I still take one in the mornings to help with some crampiness that I have first thing in the day and when I am really stressed.  Kind of a maintenance med for me....  not for everyone tho.

Hope you are getting along a little better each day.  Please let us know how you are doing..

These are time released pills so can't cut them in two.

Today I didn't have the spasming so I'm hopeful this isn't going to be a constant thing. I was getting really concerned. I could not live with that kind of pain.

Thanks for your replies :)

I have never heard of a time release medication for spasms. What is it called? I am glad today was a better day for you.

It's Symax Duotab.

It has a fast relief portion to help right away and then an extended portion for long lasting.
