Please can someone help me? My rheumatologist, who is treating me for CNS Lupus, suspects I may have Parksinsons also. My neurologic symptoms are a essential and intention tremor, with involuntary jerking, worse on the right hand side. Balance issues and memory impairment.

is it likely that parkinsons would present with these symptoms? I have had a brain scan and nothing shows.

A neurologist, especially a movement disorder specialist, can quickly tell you if you have parkinsons.  This forum has members with a variety of backgrounds including some medical backgrounds, but you won't get a diagnosis here.  If you live in a large city or within driving distance of a university hospital that is probably where you will find the specialist.  If you want to mention what part of the country you live in someone may be able to make a suggestion.  My first visit with my local neurologist lasted about 10 minutes and he accurately diagnosed me with parkinsons.  He aalso told me that there was no treatment, but the tremor can be addressed through the proper medication or possibly surgery.  Through reading our experiences in the forum you can learn about some of those strange things that you may have been experiencing, but didn't know why like problems with your toes, panic attacks, changes in taste and sense of smell, etc.  Also, sleeping problems are extremely common.  That's why I'm sitting here listening to the rain and typing at almost 1:30 in the morning.  Good luck and please stay in touch.  PS- the brain scan is good because it did not find evidence of a stroke or tumor apparently.

I am new to this group and newly diagnosed as having Parkinson's.  I also have lupus, fibromyalgia, and cluster headaches (which are thankfully under control after 7 years!).  Right now I am dealing  with being very light headed, almost like vertigo but not quite.  I was wondering if anyone else has that and what do you do.  I have been sick (almost to the point of vomiting) for 4 days.  I will go see a doctor if it does not clear up but I am not sure which one to see, g.p., neurologist or rheumy.  Any suggestions?

thanks

Let me recommend this.  Spin around as fast as you can for as long as you can.  Then come back.  Ok, have you finished throwing up?  Now you know why you've been feeling sick.  If you've ever been car sick, sea sick and been sick after riding a roller coaster then you had motion sickness.  Right now your brain is telling your body that you are lightheaded or dizzy and your stomach is responding.  If this continues I would call the neurologist.

Well, after a week of this crazy fuzzy head, my gp (after drawing 8 viles of blood) has declared that I need to see my neurologist who said she couldn't see me until August 11.  After much begging (and some tears too) she agreed to see me July 16.  In the meantime, I'm trying to trick my brain into thinking it is normal.  LOL  my gp suggested using a cane to help with balance -- have you tried that yet?  Thanks for listening --

i feel like a whiny baby when I try to explain to others.  cry

wiggermac,Parkinson's doesn't doesn't show up on a Brain Scan unlike M.S.where leisons may be observed.Diagnosis of parkinson's is arrived at by a neurologist who will do extensive examing, testing, observing, and process of elimination. It often boils down to whether or not pd drugs are effective. If these drugs work probably pd.Like alzheimers it takes a brain biopsy to confirm.Getting a second and third opinion is definitely recommended.Wish you the best stay in touch, and welcome to HealingWell.Ed

I'm willing to skip the brain biopsy and take my dr.'s word for it! LOL I have gotten me a "pretty" rainbow cane since rainbows are a sign of better times! I am looking forward to this forum to find answers/see what others have learned. I feel like this is going to be an interesting education!
