I was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 51/2 years ago. I am 59 years old now (female.) I'm on Sinemet and Amantadine. I'm on the Amantadine only for a little less than a month now. It started working after 2 days for the dyskinesias. The dyskinesias were becoming unlivable. They have completely stopped. But i'm afraid the Amantadine can stoop working anytime.

Painting123, welcome to Healing Well. Glad to hear that Amantadine is working so well for you. That's wonderful! I knew the FDA recently approved controlled-release Amantadine for dyskinesia, but hadn't run into anyone using it for that purpose. Thanks for sharing.

I can understand your concern about the Amantadine becoming less effective over time. That seems to be true for several PD medications. If it did stop working I wouldn't think it would suddenly stop working ... would think you would notice a change over time. What dosage are you taking? It's 'controlled release' (CR) also called 'extended release' (ER), right? Have you shared your concerns with your doctor and/or perhaps the staff/nurses? They may have a better feel for the answer to your concerns.

I would celebrate each day that it works. It's really out of your control anyway. I would just live life to the fullest (not in a wreckless way) and the goal that you can do tomorrow what you did today. Keep us posted.

Best of luck,

I take 100 mg. of Amantadine twice a day. I take the regular, not controlled release. I see the parkinsons doctor every three months. I have not seen him since I started taking it, about five weeks ago.
Thank you very much for your advice!
