Hi-I am new to this forum, but have been a partcipant on the Prostate forum(my dad has advanced PC) for a while now.  My 79 year old mother-in-law was diagnosed with Parkinson's about a year ago.  They said it was early stages then, but she is seeming to deteriorate rather quickly-mostly balance problems, no strength, and shaking.  She has been seeing a neurologist, is taking medications, but we are not real happy with his knowledge about PD.  My question is...do most of you with PD see a specialist...or a neurologist?  Is there such a thing as specialist for PD, and how do I go about finding one in our area?  Anybody happen to be from the Orlando, Florida area and know of a great doctor here?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Lisa

Lisa,  Parkinson's disease is a movement disorder. A neurologist who specializes in movement disorders is a movement disorder specialist or MDS. It's your (or your parents .... or loved one) life. Parkinson's affects your whole life. Is that worth seeking out a MDS? I think so.

Anyone from the Orlando, FL area ... see previous post?
