I don't know if I can word this right but will try.

You ladies on this forum are truly amazing.  You adjust to this  PCa situation much better than we guys do.  That's probably because you understand what we are going through much better than we do.  The possibility of peeing our pants and not being able to get it up just scares us to death, to the point where we have a difficult time even thinking about it.  Yet you are always there, comforting, supporting and loving us.  What a gift you are - not only to your men but to all of us guys that log in here.

My first posts in November 2006 were answered by Bluebird, M.Kat and Linda(lawink).  Your responses surprised me.  You treated me with respect and understanding even when my statements and questions were so naive.  Because of you I stayed here and would probably not be alive now if I had left.

Then I read Swimom's responses.  She scared me at first by her frankness and knowledge.  I wasn't sure if I wanted to risk talking to her.  But when I did, she was so very caring and helpful.  She worked me through my misconceptions and ignorance of PCa and its effects.

Later I read Susan, Tanya, Lana and Chayna whose posts are so sweet and caring.  They hug my heart whenever I read them.  Their support and love for their guys comes through each time they write.  And their support for each other is amazing.

Finally my wife MaryLu is my primary support.  She props me up when I am about to fall over.  She doesn't post here very much but insists that I keep her updated on you all.  And she sends you all her love and thanks.

I risk offending any of you ladies that I have not mentioned and I apologize.  Be assured that you are in my heart and thoughts.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  Lets get well together...

Jim

tongue   tongue tongue Jim, you do know how to sweet talk a woman...LOL!

A bit of frankness tossed with a little knowledge and blended just right with some good ole fashioned hugs is my own personal recipe. Turns out a bit different every time but the ingredients are still the same. :-)

It has been both an honor and a pleasure Sir! Thanks for all you do to make the forum a special place for all our men and women out there seeking respite from fear, comfort during stormy hours and of course, for all the whoo-hoo's! The list of names I'd like to thank is far too long. Lets just applaud everyone!  :-) :-)

God Bless,   Swim

Jim, what a sweet post. You guys are all amazing to me with your stories and experience. My husband has rarely (if ever) come here, but I know it has helped him to hear me relay some of what is shared. It really helps him to know that he's not alone in this.

You are so right. If it had not been for my wife meeting Bluefird and Buddy, I would not be where I am today. Thanks so much for my wife (partner) with this thing and her unwavering support and the support from everyone on this forum.

Wow Jim! Thank you for such an incredibly sweet post.  I joined this forum in the hopes to become as educated as possible for my father and in the process have met the most amazing, caring and thoughtful people.  It amazes me the openess that flows in here.  Due to "the guys" sharing their experiences, we are able to share it with the men in our lives and hopefully it has made the process a little easier.  I know it has in my father's case.  I agree with you that the women ROCK!  I have found support in so many of these special gals.  Thank you all!

I find inspiration every day in this forum and that is why I have become a healing well junkie :-) .

Love and less than 0.01 PSA's to you all in 2008!

Dear Bright & Beautiful Ladies,

It was around Christmas 2006 that my biopsy came back with an invitation to surgery.
While confident in my behavior, I was so scared, so confused,
        - and strangely for the first time - so very alone, even among many close friends.

If anyone would have tried to tell me a year ago that I would know and trust
so many real people of your caliber
that can make me forget that indescribeable lonliness -
     - and be honored to count them as friends,

I'm sure only your charming selves could have helped me imagine such kindness.

Many heartfelt THANKS from the Texas Hill Country.

Your Friend,
CCedar

Hey Jim,

You really have a talent for putting your feelings into words!  I second your motion and emotions! tongue

The women here have been and continue to be terrific!  Your opinions are soooooooo very important to us.

Of course, I can't say enough for our star moderator, bluebird.  What a gem!  Thank you for caring so much and for keeping us "in line" at the same time!

Sincere regards,

Barry

AMEN Jim!
I can't add anything to your post except: Without the advice and support of my own wife, as well as the wonderful ladies on this forum, I would still be walking around with a growing cancer inside of me. Instead I feel alive, cancer free, and hopeful of the future! Thanks to you all, and please never feel as if your love and support is going unnoticed. Trust me, it isn't!
Best,
Mike

Well, well, well.  What a nice post to come into this morning.  Personally, I would have never made it through this process without the helpful insight of all of you - female and male.  The more perspectives we have floating around, the more information we get and the better we can make informed decisions.  My heartfelt thanks to all of you for picking me up, dusting me off and pulling me (and my husband of course) along the road to recovery.

Wishes for continued health for 2008.

I have not met all of the gals yet but SWIMMOM has been a great help to me. She has researched all she speaks about and is always right on the mark. I read these forums long before I started with posts,--and seeing her answers to the other guys inspired me to post, with the information I had gathered,---in an attempt to help all us dudes,---Again I concur with jim,---TO ALL THE GREAT GALS.

Hi Jim,

You are a real darling to put this lovely post up just before the new year. Thanks for your kind words. It was lovely to return from holidays to read your message. However as others have said it is all mutual my friend! I have found the most valuable sources of support here myself which I never anticipated, so thanks for your most welcome acceptance of us girls too. We do tend to see things sometimes a little differently I guess, and we are all pretty different and diverse I guess, united only by something pretty "deep" and rather beyond words, but you would know what I mean! Love to you and MaryLu. Tke care and we have all positive thoughts and prayers directed your way as you wait for your PSA result this week. Love Lana.

Jim - I am new to this site as it took me a long time to find this site because it seems as if finding information about PCa is hard.  Most men won't talk about it--including my husband.  I am glad that I have finally found men and women alike that will share their experiences.  It does seem, though, that if you are operated on you have a better chance of beating the disease.  My husband's PCa has spread to bones and lymph nodes and so far doctors have not mentioned an operation.  He also has pain in groin area and ribs.  I have learned that I must find out the Gleason score though.  What exactly is that?  The doctor only talks about the PSA levels.

I think the men out there who are willing to share and talk are in much better shape than someone like my husband.  He won't even tell me what he feels and even though I suggested a therapist, he won't go.

Thanks to you all for your support.

The Gleason Scale is what they use to rate the cancer.  Google for it to get an in depth course on it.  It is obtained either during the biopsy or after surgery pathology is done on the remove glad and attachments.  If you haven't had a biopsy or surgery, then all they have to go by is the PSA levels and a digital rectal exam to identify 'possible' cancers.  I think, not sure, that if there is spread to outside the gland, into the abdomen or bones, then surgery is no longer an option for the the vast majority of doctors in their treatment plan.  Radiation, Hormone Therapy, and sometimes Chemo is the usual course of treatment at that point.  If I am wrong, others will be along to correct me...lol
