This is an old thread that got bumped by a new member. Notice the dates before responding.

--PeterDisAbelard

Here is what I have found out from trial and error using Trimix.

My doc started me with .1 ml in his office. It lasted 3 hours and hurt like the dickens. I decided to cut down the dose. I thought the pain was probably from 8 months of lack of use.

The next time I used .05 ml and 50 mg Viagra. It lasted 5 1/2 hours and hurt like the dickens. I decided to cut down the dose again.

Up to this point I had expected Trimix to just do its job giving me a good erection without participation on my part. When I cut the dose to .03 ml with no Viagra, nothing happened. I just stood there wondering what to do next.

Next, I took 50 mg Viagra and about 2 hours later started some penile stimulation with the help of my wife. When I felt some growth, I used .02 ml Trimix and withing 15 minutes had a great erection with no pain. It lasted about an hour and was as close to pre-surgery sex as I had to that point. This has been my routine since that time.

I have found that using Viagra to get things started and very small doses of Trimix give the best results with no pain at all and close to normal erection time. In order to avoid the interuption in love making to shoot up the Trimix, I now do a little self stimulation then use the Trimix before we start.

This is probably as close to the "good old days" as I can get at this point. Using small amounts of Trimix as sort of a booster works better for me than using larger amounts and just waiting for something to happen. I also belive that less is better when it comes to injecting my favorite appendage. I have used Trimix 30 - 40 times with no bad side effects. When I told my uro that I only used .02 ml per injection, he just shook his head.

Once again, we have to find our own way in our treatment. Good hunting...

anyone found a source for - syringe/needles 1cc,  33 gage, 12mm (1/2inch) needles  which is what the caverject comes with. I just ordered trimix and anticipate that it will come with larger diameter insulin needles (26's or 28's)  I would like to continue using the 33 gage needles which are painless if possible- the only place I have found them is through-  research supply net -  25 needles and syringes for $19  - but they charge $22 for shipping.   Has anyone got a comparison between the 33's and a larger needle-   also I was thinking about going to a shorter needle than the 1/2 inch  anyone know about that thanks

Syringes:

BD Ultra Fine has 30 ga/ 1/2 inch insulin syringes available at almost any pharmacy.  The Caverject I got had 31 ga. needles. I can't find any needles smaller than 31 ga. made by BD, the largest American supplier.  I do see lots of 33 ga lancets, which are something completely different.  As far as length, I tried a couple of 5/16 inch needles and had very littel response using them, went back to 1/2 inch and everything worked again.  I suspect 5/16 didn't place the drug as deeply in me as needed.

I use .5 cc diabetic syringes, 33 gauge 5/16 inch needles.  The are easy to use and cost 25 cents each.

Trimix costs $75 for a 5 ml vial.  Using .02 - .03 ml per shot, I get about 200 shots per vial if it doesn't go bad first.  That is about 40 cents per shot.  I get Viagra substitute from AllDayChemist for about 60 cents per 100 mg pill and cut them in two.  So my total cost per event is about $1.  I'm a really cheap date...

Hey James,

They are called "Ultra Comfort Insulin Syringe".  I get them at my local compounding pharmacy: The Medicine Shoppe.  I think they are a chain pharmacy.  I put the address in your list of compounding pharmacies thread.

Thanks for your comments guys- I got my trimix last night from my local compounding pharmacy. I talked to the pharmicist at length about several issues and decided on trimix because he indicated that he had had much greater success with tri or bimix. I am not posting his address because he does not think compounders should fill script s by mail order because for various reasons. I'll be happy to pass his name along privately, he's in Kansas. He says:  1 Reason for 90 day expiration is because over time germs may grow in vial because script s are not compounded in a germ free environment and also because of multiple use of same vial.  2 Refrigeration required for same reason - although drug remains effective when stored at room temperature, germs grow much faster at room temp than in refrigerator. I will be replacing my script every 90 days based on his comments.  3 There can be a number of different drug variations in the trimix compound - all are called trimix. The pharmicist indicated that the following combination was a middle of the road comibination which had produced good results for many of his clients. He stressed that results, including pain, very widely based on the combination used. He suggested that I determine the level of drug necessary to produce good result and that if I had any pain, then we could lower the Alprostadil level. Here is what I got.    10 ML vial      30 mg Papaverine      1 mg Phentolamine     20 mcg/mL Alprostadil Directions indicate dose is 1ML, but pharmacist suggested starting with .5ML. Cost $110  --with 90 day expiration (which I intend to comply with) Caverject with Insurance was 3 times this amount FIRST TRY Last night I tried it. As I suspected the needles furnished were 28gage. Maybe it was just in my head because of the anticipation, but the injection seemed painful compared to the caverject 33 gage needle. The .5ML was too much. It produced great results but lasted more than two hours. Painful after about an hour.  I plan to buy some 33 gage needles and will likely use .3 ML next time. Based on my experience and other postings, I think a good starting point is something less than .5ML and then adust from there.

I've had some questions about how I measure .02 ml of Trimix in my syringes. The scale on the 1/2 cc insulin syringe is shown below. It is very easy to draw and use the meds.

    .05  .10   .15  .20   .25   .30   .35    .40   .45    .50 ml

.02 ml

Good luck...

James C I did some research on needles. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, I noticed a substantial comfort difference between a 28g and 33g needle. Since I had been using a 1/2 inch needle and had seen conflicting postings about the effectiveness of the 5/16 needle, I attempted to find a 33g,  1/2 inch, syringe/needle combo. The caverject system that I previously was using had a 33g- 1/2 inch needle made by BD. However, I believe that must be a proprietary needle made specifically for caverject because I was unable to find that needle in the BD product catalog. I was able to find a 33g 1/2 needle made by TSK (steriject 33 1/2) and then purchase seperate syringes. Total cost was about $.83 per syringe/needle combo. 30g, 1/2 inch insulin syringes can be purchased for less than 1/2 that, but I want the smallest 1/2 inch needle possible and don't mind spending an extra $ .40 per injection to have the least amount of pain and assurance that the medication will get where is supposed to go. I found the needles and syringes at www.researchsupply.net   -"quiet" I'm using these to inject monkies -100 needles and syringes plus $15 shipping $82.76 cheaper at medical supply, but had to have a medical license or pharmacy number--Amazing what we have to go through to get help.   hope this helps someone

Update on my trimix dosage. first dosage 1/18/08 .5ML. This was too much as stated above. 1/22 reduced dosage to .2ML - it took slighty longer to take effect but still very good erection result. It lasted about 1.5 hours. I think this is about where I want to be. There was still some pain so I think I will have my next script of trimix adjusted - Alprostadil level reduced from 20 mcg/mL to 10 and see if that eliminates remaining pain.

We were given Trimax in September, but have yet to try. Our doc said it was ok to leave at room temp until we used, then refridge the rest. Now reading this 90 day issue. Are our samples still good? or should he dump them? Kurt just went to buy needles, so any advice would be very helpful. Courtne

Hey Courtney,

My Trimix is now 4 months old and still has no cloudyness so I am still using it. If you have never drawn any meds from the vial it should still be good IMHO. My doc said it would not lose potency by going over the time limit - just that there was increased possibility of contamination. At $75 per 5 ml vial with no help from the insurance company, I ain't throwin it out till I have too...

Hey guys! I've been reading through your posts on caverject/bimix/trimix and am so glad I found you all. I'm in my 30's and am impotent due to prostate surgery 2 years ago. I got married for the first time 1 month ago tomorrow and have been using caverject impulse with very mixed results. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It always hurts like heck.

My doc will only give me a perscription for caverject and blows me off when I ask for a tri mix/bimix perscription.

I desperately want some help obtaining trimix or bimix. I'm self employed and have no health insurance and I basically can not afford the $20-45 per dose of caverject very often. If I could get doses for the $1.00-5.00 range that some of you all have mentioned it would be amazing!

If anyone has a pharmacy name and number, and perhaps the name of a pharmacist I can talk to there who can supply me with the tri or bimix that would be just so, so wonderful! Also, order numbers on the insulin needles and suppliers would just make a big difference too.

I can probably find another urologist to write the prescription, or perhaps someone knows a decent one in Virginia who will be helpful.

Biker, Kurt just bought 3/10 cc insulin syringes. How do we know where the right dose is? Insulin needle is 30 cc's or i guess 10 since 3/10 cc needles, and trimax in 1.o ml vial? any thoughts?

Hey Courtney, I could not give you an accurate reading without seeing your syringes but I tried to show how mine look in one of the posts above.  If yours are .3 cc  (3/10 cc) then .1 cc should be marked about 1/3 of the way up the syringe.  Mine are .5 cc syringes and are marked .05  .10  .15 etc.  I don't know what dose your doc told you to use but believe me, less is better and lots less painful than more.  The first few times have to be sort of trial and error until you get the dose right for what you want to accomplish.  Also I found that after months of inactivity I got pretty sore.  That got better with use...

Thanks again, Jim.  Our needles do not have point (.) anything, just numbers.  We tried to 6 tonight and very little, but no pain.  I am guessing that to six was .06 on your needle.  Just didn't want to end up in hospital.  Will try more next time.  Probably should call pharmacist or doc first.  All we can remember about what doc told us was 10.  Thank you again for all you do.  We love you!  Courtney

Yep, you probably shot .06 ml. I use only .02 - .04 but that is after using 50 mg Viagra and some L-Arginine and some stimulation. I hated those erections that hurt and lasted half the night. Great to start but got old fast.

Good luck...

F.Y.I. regarding auto-injection for trimix.  If you have difficulty injecting trimix because of pain, anticipated pain, shakes, fear, etc., as I did, then I would recommend using an auto-injector.  I hesitated going this direction for quite some time but my right side always gave me some problems.  I purchased the BD Automatic Injector # 328245 for about $18.00 from Walgreens.  It is a spring loaded device that has a small push button on its side for release of the needle into the penis.  All you have to do is load the syringe, place it in a proper position on the skin surface and gently push in the release button.  No pain, no anticipation, very smooth and its overwith before you know it.....what a pleasure and a dream.  Absolutely no anxiety making the process almost transparent.  I bit the bullet and very happy I did.

Hope this is of some consolation to those in need.

I agree wholeheartedly with Marc about the auto-injector.  I got mine online at Amazon.com for about $20.

I'm not ordinarily squeamish around needles (I'm a regular blood donor), but penile injections are a whole different deal.

Sounds like Kurt got the 30-unit low-dose insulin syringes, which are 0.3 mL (cc) volume.  Insulin syringes are marked in units rather than mLs, but you can convert it to mL--each 10 unit mark equals 0.1 mL.  You can buy tuberculin syringes--0.5 mL or 1.0 mL which will have the markings on the barrel in mL's.

P.S.  The illustration of the syringe that Jim posted in this thread looks like a tuberculin, not an insulin, syringe.

Hello everyone. I'm a new member and just started Caverject and was wondering if anyone could answer a few question about it. I tried my first self-dose at home and got no response. I used Caverject Impulse 20mcg and used half of it (10mcg), which is what my doctor told me to use. Has anyone ever injected 10 units and got no response? Should I increase my dose, or since I had no response, did I just miss the proper injection target? The needle I used is a half inch long and I pushed it in all the way as I was instructed. Maybe I went too far? I injected more towards the top of the penis rather than the side, should you inject directly into the side in the 50% range or more 3/4 like I did? After you inject, should you massage the medicine in or just place pressure on the injection site until the bleeding stops which is what my doctor instructed to do? I read that this one doctor instructs his patients to masterbait after injection until the penis becomes hard. The reason for this is so the medicine is evenly distributed. I thought that with Caverject you didn't have to stimulate the penis to get hard...maybe I've been wrong?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Rob
