I am really having a difficult time keeping an empty stomach to try to get the most effective result from Viagra.  We usually eat around 4 to 5 pm, then I have a snack around 930 to 10pm.  I feel that if I eat at say 500pm, then I might possibly have food still in the stomach at 930 if I have eaten a big meal.  Anyone know what the amount of time that Viagra needs to be in the empty stomach to get the effective result from it, before eating again, say that snack I really count on each night?  Another possibility is to take the dose in the middle of the night, on one of my couple trips to the bathroom.  Or is this too late to get the nocturnal effects that taking it provides?

I think most of the literature indicates that you should wait about 3 hours after eating to get maximum effect. I would think that if you eat by 5 pm, you could take it around 8-8:30 and do fine. It begins to work for me after 45 minutes to an hour, although I find it often works better after at least an hour, if not two. In terms of how long it's effective, my dr told me about 4 hours. I'm using the alldaychemist equivalent, Caverta, and it works much longer for me -- up to 12 hours. (Also, MUCH cheaper!) Good luck!

I also would encourage you to not take the empty stomach thing too literally. What the drug does not work well with is, say, after a big, romantic dinner and you take a pill and expect great results. There is simply too much food and alcohol to absorb the drug before it gets in your bloodstream. If you have a sandwich then take viagra, you should be just fine. Don't add stress to your life over this.

Puget: Caverta? My Alldaychemist viagra is called "manly". Not sure how I feel taking a manly drug...is it cause I'm lacking? i like caverta better. sounds real clinical!

Caverta is the $2.00 a pill, no double pill offer kind, also listed as Ranbaxy.

Thanks for the info.  The stuff doesn't work on me visibly yet, so I don't know what the effects should be when I have taken it.  I know the 100mg pill does give me flushing and a hot feeling face, but the 50mg I take nightly now gives no effect or feeling.  Neither Viagra or Levitra works to do what it is supposed to do-----yet.  At 4 1/2 months post-surgery, I figure I got some months to go, as I am evidently not one of the quick healers.

don't get discouraged. It took my husband 11 months post surgery to achieve a usable erection with the use of Viagra, and it's been improving ever since. He uses maybe one third to one half a pill now with usually great results.
