I had my prostate removed last July by the DaVinci procedure.. The cancer apparently was all corrected. My PSA test showed unmeasurable. I was almost completely continent with in a month.

In October, I developed a problem -- apparently scarring was blocking the urethra. I could not manage a steady flow, but urine would only come out in short spurts. Straining did not help only relaxing did. I was incontinent a bit again. The doctor said because I wasn't emptying my bladder. A surgery in November corrected this problem (I'm not sure what procedure was used). I was cured for less than a month and the problem returned.

A third surgery in January again corrected the problem. I thought everything was fixed. This time the doctor said he'd have to be more severe in what he removed and said he'd use a LASER.

Two weeks ago I'd have said I was completely cured, but the problem has returned again. Not as bad as before, but on the other hand it's gone from no problem to a problem in about a week and a half.

My symptoms are a very weak stream at first and I can only finish urinating in short spurts.

Is there a name for this problem so I can read up on it? I am extremely frustrated and depressed that the problem seems uncorrectable.

Any Advice at all?

What you are experiencing is common with a stricture problem. The depth of the stricture is what the problem is. I just had the proceedure and it was great for a few week. Mine was a shallow stricture so the scar tissue that formed after the proceedure was not too bad and I have a decent stream now. All he did with me is to make a few slices to open it up. The doc told me I was lucky. The more work they have to do in there the more scar tissue.

Hope they can find a better proceedure for you.

Diagnosed with a Gleason 4X3. Second opinion at Stanford came back as 3X4, 1 out of 7 samples, Left Side. DRE showed Normal. Before Biopsy Psa gradually crept to 10. Dropped to 6.4 with Alt. suppliments.
Proton Beam Therapy at Loma Linda 11-06. 1st PSA 4 Months 3.4, PSA at 8 Mo. 1.7. - 1 Yr. PSA 1.8 ( Different Lab ) 4 th PSA Slightly up at 2.19- Free PSA at .33 probably due to BPH. 1 year and 11 mo. Urologist discovered Scar Tissue in the uretha causing frequent urination with burning. Bladder not emptying completely.
Scheduled ( 12/17/07 ) to have the scar tissue sliced to open up the restriction. Good news is PSA is down to 1.14.
Urethrotomy performed. Flow much improved. No more burning.
