Hi,

My Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and is going to undergo CyberKnife radiation treatment during the 1st week in April. He's scheduled to go on a cruise in the middle of May, but we really don't know what to expect post-treatment. The doctor said it would be OK to go, the literature said side-effects should be over within 4 weeks, but we're still a bit confused. He'd like to go on the cruise if he should be feeling OK, but at this point we don't know how he'll be feeling at that point. Any suggestions?
Current Medications:

Pentssa, 1000 mg qid
Vitamin B Complex
Trader Joe's Probiotic
Folic Acid
Remicade infusion; every 8 weeks
Klonopin
Ambien, PRN
Seasilver Whole Food Liquid Nutrition

I do not know effects of Cyberknife. But if I can go to the PGA in 100 deg. heat leakin up to 6 - 8 pads a day he can enjoy his cruise!
Cargo pants are Great!!! if incontinance is the issue? Good Luck?

First off KW that's funny!

Catman, the vacation probably will be welcomed after treatment because he is going to be relaxing anyways. I would make sure he checks with his Dr. first but I would venture to say 5 weeks post he should be good. I was back to work in 3 weeks and surfing at 6 weeks.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Hope you're both doing well. Dad's been lucky...he's 85 and in generally good health. Had a high PSA reading (6.7), which led to a visit to the urologist. Gleason score was 3 + 3. Saw the doc for the CyberKnife radiation treatment and he thought Dad is a good candidate for the treatment because he's in good overall health. So, we begin the preliminary process next week, and the treatment itself begins the last day of March and through the rest of that week. 5 days of treatment and he's done. I know he's a bit anxious about all of this, and I guess he's a bit concerned whether he'd be able to go on the cruise, which he's looking forward to. So, with your feedback, as well as what the doc has said (and which I'll review with him again), I'll be encouraging Dad to proceed with his vacation plans. And as you say (kdnole) the vacation will be a good follow-up treatment for him, because he'll be relaxing and hopefully having a great time.

Just an update...Dad had his 5th and final CyberKnife radiation treatment today. All has gone extremely well. He's been feeling good thus far and has been able to maintain most of his usual activities. I was told he may have some side effects that start next week and may last a couple of weeks. We'll wait and see. Dad said the worst part was inserting the "markers" a couple of weeks ago; otherwise the entire process was painless. We have to see the doc for follow up in 3 weeks.

For those of you that have access to this form of radiation treatment (which currently appears to be quite limited from what I've been told), I'd recommend that you investigate it, even if you have to travel a bit to access a facility with the technology.

Anyway, Dad is definitely planning on going on his cruise. Hopefully he'll also be able to visit Ireland later in the summer.
