My uncle had his biopsy yesterday and they took 12 cores. His prostate was normal size and the doctor said he did not see anything unusual via the ultrasound. When asked if that was a good sign he said he wished he could say it was but we won't know anything until the results come back in 2 weeks. If he finds out sooner he will call.  Is this a normal waiting time for biopsy results? He is 68 years old, psa jumped from 2 to 8 in 18 months.

Took about 5 days to get my results back, as I recall....a phone call I will always remember, unfortunately.

Danman Bob
Age 57
Nerve-sparing, open prostate surgery November 13, 2007
Gleason score 9, PSA 14
Biopsy result - 9 of 12 sticks showed cancer
Despite high Gleason score, cancer was confined to the prostate
Possible post-surgery radiation therapy...decision likely in late April 2008, depending upon PSA at that time
Unrelated surgery January 2008 delayed incontinence recovery, which is now showing good signs of improvement (fraction of a pad a day as of March 2008)
Began using Viagra 3 times a week December 2007 to stimulate blood flow
Began using Osbon Erec-Aid Esteem manual pump for therapy mid-February 2008
Will probably begin using bimix injections in addition to Viagra and pump in May 2008

My results were one week later.  My doc said he always scheduled the biopsy and the results appointment a week apart since it usually took most of that time to get the results and he likes to give the report in person.  I'm grateful he did - much better to get bad news in person than a phone call.  He gave us plenty of time to ask questions and he went over a lot of issues we hadn't even thought of. David

My biopsy results came back to the doctor in 2-3 days.  Yet, I waited to discuss them with the doctor and didn't call in for the results.  In my case, that was much better since I was positive for cancer.
I have thought it would be great if they called immediately if the results were negative, but then I guess you'd know if they didn't call that something was up, and then you'd have to wait some days to talk to the doctor in a private discussion.  So, I'm not sure which is worse.  :-)
Any thoughts?

Wow. These guys had speedy labs. My results were always at least 10 days. One was two weeks. It's hard waiting, but take the time to do things with your uncle you have always meant to do, or something he likes. It will take your mind of it.
All the best.

Mine came back in about a week-and-a-half, but that was because my urologist/surgeon sent them off to Dr. Epstein at Johns Hopkins for a second opinion (who confirmed the local pathology). He wanted to be sure before he gave me the bad news.
Biopsy: Gleason 6. Five of twelve samples positive with <5% each. No perineural invasion seen.
Post-op Pathology: Upgraded to Gleason 7 (3+4), negative margins, negative capsular penetration, negative seminal vesicles, lymph nodes left intact, multifocal perinural invasion, 15% of prosate involving cancer in both lobes. T2c

<FONT color=#0>Out of pads at five weeks. Ten months post-op I'm fully continent.
Post Surgery PSA: Four tests, all <0.1
<FONT color=red>Family history: Great-great grandfather died from PC. My Father had his prostate removed at age 67 in 1997 and has had an undetectable PSA ever since. I was diagnosed at a much earlier age and had a more agressive cancer than my father. Go figure.

Thanks everyone for your input. Hopefully, the results will not take the full 2 weeks. The doctor said he would call as soon as he received the results.
