I had my first erection five days post op nerve sparing. The catheter was still in. It was just the beginning and I could not wait until the catheter was out.

When it was out my erections were good but not as firm as pre op. My orgasms felt good but not as “earth shattering” as before. I reached a plateau for about two weeks. I am now about 45 days post op. In the last week my erections have become much firmer and easier to maintain. At first they would fade rather quickly. Now I remain firm even “hands free”. Also my orgasms are as intense as pre op and I get that pleasurable “body shake” with the first spasm of six or seven spasms. I have noticed that the firmer the erections the more intense the orgasms.

My wife and I have not been shy about indulging our fantasies. When we have sex she wears what she knows I like and tells me what I love to hear. This is very important and will do wonders. Please try it with your wife or lover. I take no prescription drugs for any illnesses and am in good health for my 59 years. I do take a multivitamin and a baby aspirin each day. I just started taking L-Arginine each day as I read it helped with nitric oxide to relax blood vessels and has been called the natural Viagra. I cannot say for sure but I have had much improved blood flow to my penis since taking it. I have found wearing a properly fit rubber O ring at the base of my penis helps. I even wore this prior to surgery. It must be snug but not too tight. It must expand slightly as the erection expands.

History:

PSA was 4.7, Biopsy one sample out of 12  1% cancer, Prostate removed with nerve sparing on 3/5/08, cancer appeared to have remained in the prostate per pathology report. Erections and orgasms caused a little pain at first buy seem pain free now.

There was an article in the NY Times a few months back about PCa and surgery. One guy interviewed said his wife (20 years younger) was all he needed after surgery. HA he was one of the lucky few. He also said about an orgasm..."You can hear the orchestra, but not the trumpets."

You're right, though. There is a HUGE period of when we simply don't feel sexy or verile. So much time has been spent looking at that part of our body as a patient, that the thought of feeling like a stud is about the furthest thing from your mind.

Several guys have said that the intensity after surgery is stronger and that orgasm lasts longer. I have to say that it is good, different...but still very good. as time goes by, I keep hoping I'll be rewarded with a 90 second orgasm! Oh, well, I'm lucky to be able to function as I do - I'll count my blessings.

The best way I can describe it is this:  5 months ago, the first time, it was muted as to sensation.  Everyhthing occurred within the abdomen.  The familiar rippling effect in the abdomen was there, but greatly reduced.  Each time since, the rippling and the ejaculatory spasms or pulsing has been increasing.  The last time was a mind blower, really intense, more intense than most of the times before surgery, and lasted almost a minute.  I'm almost 7 months now and even having to deal with Viagra and injections it is fast becoming worth it to chase those intense feelings again. I am hopeful to repeat the intensity or even increase it, as it seems to be improving with each session.

Bob Congrates!!!!

I am New to this Board,

You must be one of the few i have heard of to return to potency so fast after surgery...it is an amazing feeling to have , while we al battle the side effects for a long time.

They say it takes between 6 to 18 months to return to full potency, i been operated on June of 2007 (now 10 months out) and still struggling with ED as i have started to be more aggressive in the last 3 months (VED and Oral Meds ) and seeing improvements in the last month or so ...can achieve an erection with Pump and meds but not naturally yet , PC deducted 3+3 , totally contained , and removed with both nerve bundles spared.

Experiencing mid nights erections , but not controlled yet.
i Hope to be back in shape soon an able to come close to pre-surgery condition.
Keep us posted !! :-)

I too consider myself one of the lucky ones. Got a full firm ereciton the day after cathater was removed. The first time the orgasm wasn't all that intense but since then I have no complaints. Ogasm felt great. It seems weird not being able ejaculate but the intensity of the orgasm is there. This is my 3rd week post op and 2 weeks from having cathater removed. I have yet to have sex with my wife as so far it has been self manipulation. I will say that I'm still tender in the genital area and an orgasm leaves me pretty drained so I have refrained from getting frisky with wife yet. My continence is getting better and I am staying dry at night now which I sure wasn't doing the first week after cathater removal. Any of you that are discouraged I would say do your kegel exercises and be patient. I know I was frustrated that first week. I was setting my alarm on the hour at night so I would not wet myself. Now I am waking up on my own and getting up only a couple of times a night. I am decreasing my fluid intake after my evening meal which has helped. I will have to say that the surgery took it out of me pretty good. I do walk about a mile a day but, like today. I feel pretty drained and worn out like I got a touch of the flu but I think it's just my body telling me that even though I had laporoscopic sugery, it still is major surgery and takes time to get your strength back.

Sparky ....you sure should consider yourself a VERY LUCKY ONE ...it is al,most unheard of having an erection 2 weeks after PC surgery ...it is Bordering in a miracle !!! are you sure you had your prostate removed ?? its truly takes at least 8 weeks to even start feeling any progress if you are LUCKY!!! and you must be extremely LUCKY!!!! that is fantastic !!!my Uro instructed me to not even think or have sex for at least a month after surgery being the organs in that area stil fragile and not healed yet ... i was DRY the day after i took my cath out so i was lucky in that department ....

Hi Bob,

I had a start of an erection several days after surgery with the Cath in.  Not good.  6 days cath out and I was able to get an erection and bring to climax with Viagra.  I am now almost 30 days post op and I can obtain an erection with or without the Viagra but much better with.  The climax is definetly O.K. different but no complaints no way.  I am taking 50 mg of Viagra every other morning still and will continue for months for healing.

My interest seems to be very visual and mental.  Stress or a hard day at work seems to have a very direct effect with libido.  No surprise.

I had intercourse once and I was able to do pretty good but was pretty sore after so I am self limiting with that and need to wear a condom next time for sure.

Incontenence is still a pain for me though.  3-5 pads a day depending on how much I am up and still in a diaper at night with leaking all night.

Frank
