My urologist injected me with .2ml of bimix (30 mg papaverine/1 mg phentolamine) in his office this morning.

I told him that folks here suggested that amount as a safe dosage for the trial run.  His patients typically use Caverject or trimix, so he has little experience with bimix.

I took 100MG Viagra about 1.5-2 hours before the shot.

I got an erection that is still with me over an hour later, although it never reached usable status.  Got about 80% of what a good, firm, very hard erection would be like.

Only downside is he used a 5/8 inch, 25 gauge needle, rather than a 5/16 inch, 31 gauge needle that I will be using.  I definitely felt the shot.  Hopefully the smaller needle will be less noticeable when I inject myself.

Also considering an autoinjector.  If anyone knows of a good, relatively cheap one, let me know.

Very pleased with these initial results.

No word yet on my PSA test from Monday.

Nerve-sparing, open prostate surgery November 13, 2007
Gleason score 9, PSA 14
Biopsy result - 9 of 12 sticks showed cancer
Despite high Gleason score, cancer was confined to the prostate
Possible post-surgery radiation therapy...decision likely in late April 2008, depending upon PSA at that time
Unrelated surgery January 2008 delayed incontinence recovery, which is now showing good signs of improvement (fraction of a pad a day as of March 2008)
Began using Viagra 3 times a week December 2007 to stimulate blood flow
Began using Osbon Erec-Aid Esteem manual pump for therapy mid-February 2008
Will probably begin using bimix injections in addition to Viagra and pump in May 2008

Great news, with 80% the first time out.  Smaller needles will make it much more comfortable.  Congrats on your first time....

Hi Danman ...
I am glad you showing good result so early into the recovery process, i am 10 months out and eventhough my surgeon mentioned Injection therapy to jump start the process i elected to use all the other means (Oral meds and VED) until a year passed , an i am glad to report some noticeable progress after the 9th month.
As i hear and read from many it is a process that takes 9 to 12 months to star developing and can take up t 24 months for full recovery, i am sure with a nerve sparing procedure that you have had you will show fast progress with ED i had an open RP as well just further along in the process.

Keep the faith and hope for the best ...
Good Luck
GB yeah yeah
April 2007 PSA 8.4 for last 6 months biopsy shows PC 3+3=6
June 13 2007 Went for open RP with Dr. Christopher Johnson at St. Francis Hospital NY. with nerve sparing of both sides.
4 days later home for Fathers Day, and Catheter.
Removal of catheter 10 days later , incontinence next to nothing, no pads used from the get go.
1 month PSA next to not detected

ED is a longer battle:1 month out start using occasionally Cialis and 50MG Viagra to promote blood flow with no response for 6 months.
3 months and 6 months PSA not detected
ED 6 months mark starting with VED therapy and being more aggressive with meds , in addition taking Folgard supplement daily.
April 2008 10 month out and start seeing some serious improvements with ED while using Meds and VED , can achieve erections, Mid nights erections almost on a regular basis , and uncontrolled 90 % erections spontaneously.
1 year visit on June 13 2008 woohoooo!!!

Thanks, GB.

I also use a pump daily.  Doc suggested I continue with daily pumping and Viagra 3 times a week, in addition to injections a few times a month, so I plan to follow that regimen.

Hopefully I will be able to find a good dosage soon...and a needle the feels a lot better than the one he used this morning....ouch!

That is Great i was a bit lazzy at th start and maybe that is why it takes a bit lnger with me ..was not on IT daily .now i use the pump a bit more (about 3 to 4 times a week ) and take 50 MG V almost every day seems like the progress is on track and being i knew it takes time for the nerves to heal i did not push the issue too soon ....
Good Luck in the journey , you are doing the right things ..
