Hi Everyone,
i was wondering how many of you fellow survivors are using oral meds/supplements to expedite the recovery process from PCA side effects.
I am taking daily L-Argenine (750mg) , Flogard supplement (Dr. Prescribed that contain Vitamin "B" and others to hea and rebuild nerve system), i also take Multi Vitamin daily as well.
Does anyone uses those meds or some ? and notice any improvement in recovery ? mainly nerve Bundles and ED?

Thanks for the Information and participating in that Post

GB :-)

Hi GB, Good question as your recovery is similar to my husband's. On the other (no supplement) side, my husband (CJ) hasn't taken anything additional in the past 12 months, only Levitra 20mg when needed for ED. However he is thinking of starting a multi-vitamin now, as currently on a weight loss diet. Initally, I thought a daily zinc supplement may help nerve healing in that area, but after some (personal) research scrapped that idea. He therefore took a zinc tablet for the first 2 weeks post-op before he stopped, but I think we were just desperate to do something! So in the end, for the last 12 months or so - no additional things specific to ED recovery. Hope that helps, but would be really interested in the other replies where things (supplements such as those you mention), may have assisted others. All the best to you, GB.

Good morning GB
The hospital I go to has me meet with a naturopath and I was prescribed a good vitamin regimine to help with the side effects of the drugs as well as build the body. For me I am sad to say nothing helps with the impotence, but I feel pretty good most of the time. If you would like I will gladly list what I take.
Please stay in touch.

peace grace
and love
Dale
My PSA at diagnosis was 16.3
age 46 (current)
My gleason score from prostate was 4+5=9 and from the lymph nodes was 4+4=8
I had 44 IMRT's
Casodex
Currently on Lupron
I go to The Cancer Treatment Center of America
Married with two kids

Hi Creed and Livin for your input...
I was wondering if a good healthy diet by itself (Soy, Vegetables, and fruits )are an is enough by itself to heal our nerves and body , or we need to give it extra help.
The known ED drugs are an obvious contributors and i am sure that most of us use them on a regular basis at one time or another , however i am sure we all wondering what kind of other secret supplements there is to speed up recovery.

Creed you are right CJ an myself had the same path with the same procedure at around the same time period ...i will be ONE YEAR OUT on June 13th and i do see great improvements with ED in the last 2 months and i hope it would only improve from now on ..i was wondering if you had the same path and experience improvements at the same time.

thanks again for your input

GB :-)

Good LUCK!!! and keep us posted

argenine since catheter removal, and 5omg of generic Viagra. No improvement whatsoever on the ED front. That's coming up on 8 months week after next.

LArginine, vitamin B-50, C and E (your healing vitamins), a frequent dose of one of the big 3 (Levitra, Viagra or Cialis) and some good, good lovin should aid any man's nerves. Not so bad for the women either :>)

On the seriouser side...lol...L-Arginine is a precursor to NO. It may not create a faster erection but it will enhance the general healing process and it does help the effectiveness of the oral meds. once there has been enough nerve regenration for oral meds to be effective. Men with low to zero testosterone may see no benefit using L-A. I'd probably side with safety and ask about using L-A while on hormone depriviation therapy anyway. May not benefit being the key words here. Ya just never know! A good brand, although expensive, is San VasoFlow.

Note of interest.... Most major burn centers use L-Arginine in treating burn patients. It's also a common enzyme use by CF patients. Interestingly, PDE5 drugs were created as a drug for pediatric pulmonary hypertension. It makes sense that LArginine would benefit select children with P-Htn w/o renal insufficiency

Note: Keep in mind there are some people who cannot or should not use L-A (such as kidney patients).

Take 100MG Viagra about 3 times a week.  No visible results yet other than occasional pinkish tint to skin and some slightly engorged blood vessels.  Also take vitamin E and a multivitamin daily.

Bought some L-Arginine (only 500MG daily due to my kidney failure), vitamin B-50 and vitamin C today.  Won't hurt and MIGHT help....thanks for posting this thread.

Also using vacuum pump and injections.

HI GB,

To answer your question - yes - at 10 months a steady improvment all around for us,  and noticeable, so good luck - looks like those nerves were spared!! However caution, we tried without meds and experienced some disappointment at 12 months, which was a set-back (psychologically). My opinion is to cut down rather than suddenly cease ED meds. Now back on them - and too busy to relax - never mind. Husband as I say this is current asleep in front on lounge! However I reckon stay on them for a while as could take up to 2 years. I am starting Swim's regime, and planning to research it. Sounds good...

GB,

I found L-Arginine at my local compounding pharmacy and at my local GNC store.  My guess is any place, maybe even Wal-Mart, that sells herbs and supplements would carry it.
