What has become routine it seems, is the phone call just before we are ready to go in for my initial treatment.  Again today it came.  It seems they have a plan for me but the physisists have a question and they won't sign off on the plan until they discuss it with my doctor.  He happens to be involved with the international conference they are having at UFPTI this week and won't be back in the office till Tuesday.  So my tenative appointment to start my treatment is 1600 or 4PM for you civilians on Tuesday.  Now we have a 4 day weekend with no plans.

There is a positive side.  Even though I spent 22 plus years in the military and many of those were a long way from home this make me feel more of a kinship to the military fighting this war on terror.  Many are a long way from home and face the possibility of death each and every day.  While I might be half way across the country from most of my loved ones, I am not alone as I sit here with my sweet wife Debbie.

Please remember our service men and women in prayer on this Memorial Weekend.

Sorry to hear about your further delay, Richard.  You will soon be on the short list of Nobel Prize nominees for patience!

And thanks for the reminder about Memorial Day and the men and women serving the country they love in far-flung places in great danger.

I just completed reading two excellent, readable books by James Hornfischer--Ship of Ghosts and Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors  about the terrible human cost of WWII.  I have an interest in that war because my 85-year-old dad was a WWII military pilot.  I served in the blue-water Navy in the Vietnam War.

Take care and hang in there...Tim

So sorry about the delay, we are thinking about you, and all of our military families ,some so far away on this memorial day. We give thanks for having been an air force family and just know that all will work out for you. Annie

Dear Richard

I have not been as active in this forum in recent months, but just came across your posting here.  I checked out your great website which should be very helpful to those who are trying to make the tough decision of how to treat their PCa.  I was humbled to find that your website has a link to my journey with PCa on this website.  Perhaps you have explained this somewhere, but it would be helpful to know why you did not elect to be treated at M.D. Andersen and chose the University of Florida instead for a combination of hormone, IMRT and proton radation treatment.  Also, why wasn't proton therapy alone an option for your treatment? This information would be very helpful to readers here.

Sorry to hear about the delay in starting your treatments, but hopefully you will be well on your way soon!  I hope and pray that your treatments will be successful and that you can get back to enjoying your retirement.  I have the greatest respect and admiration for those who have bravely served our military so well and have given so much to defend the freedoms which we enjoy and much too often take for granted.  Hats off to you!

Dave
