Hello Everyone,  Looks like we have locked up another one.  You would think that one of these days we can quit talking about me!

We did have a great time on the Cruise.  A nice relaxing escape from reality.

On the leaking front all is about the same.  Some close calls on the trip but after 20 months of dealing with it I'm finally getting the hang of it!  We did have a interesting shuttle bus ride to the Wal-Mart in Juneau, Alaska.  Just how many people can cram into a 12 passenger van?  I just glad they had a pack of "Manty Liners".  I was afrade I was going to have to wear the "pull-up's" if they didn't.  I guess in hindsight I should have stuffed every pocket of each suitcase with all the pads they would hold and still be under that 50 pound magic number.

I guess now I will move to Plan B.  That is starting to call for consultations for the Doctors I have chosen for my short list to have the AUS done.  I still hate the thought of having this done.  But it is the last thing on the market at this time.  With all your support and prayers I know I will be able to handle what ever comes out of it.

I will let you all know how things go.

Hey KW,

Welcome back and glad you had a good time on the cruise. Nice break.

It sounds like the AUS is the way to go. And I don't blame you for being anxious for another surgery and recovery but its worth it to fix the problem.

Hang in...

Glad you enjoyed your cruise and sightseeing adventures without any major 'oops' involved.  It will beinteresting to read what you find out about ending longterm incontinence.

Hello everyone,  Just a quick update.  I have a consultation with a Dr. Morey in Dallas on July 14th.  I have my list of questions to ask him.  I also called the Mayo clinic and ask if and how they do phone consultations.  They told me to fax a brief history of my treatments, my current condition, and my list of questions to them.  The Dr. (which I can not remeber right now) would look at it, let me know if I am a candidate (Like I do not know that one) and answer my questions.

I will let you all know what I find out.

Kw,
Best of luck with your upcoming appointment. You sure seem to be one upbeat bloke despite your setbacks. The wife and I may do that Alaskan cruise one day. From what I read it is outstanding. Take care,
Bill

    AUS Consultation

Hello everyone,  I had my consultation with Dr. Morey in Dallas, TX today (July 14).  Everything went well.  I liked his attitued and "bed side manner".  He answered all the questions I had.  Which with my research and having talked to "gene" several times on the phone I pretty much knew most of the answers before I asked them.  As usual he said he did not expect any problems.  But with my "sling" he won't know exactly where the cuff will be placed until he gets a look in there.  He was realistic though!  He said 100% no dribbles no drips probably will not happen.  But getting to a light "panty" liner would be a drastic improvement in my quality of life!  I'll still wish for some good luck with this one for a change.  I did not have them schedule me for the surgery yet.  Just one of those things you like to sleep on.  I will probably call some day this week to have them set it up.  Right now he is booked out about 6 weeks so I am looking at late August or early September.

I'll let you all know if anything changes.  Otherwise you will see me posting back on other threads.

    See Yall later,

    KW

    AUS Surgery Date!!!

Just wanted to let you all know I have a date for my "Bionic Pisser" AUS.  It is set for August 22nd with Dr. Allen Morey at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.  I know.....I know.....  We Sooners hate to admit that Texas has anything good to offer.  But sometime you gotta give a little.  uuummmm......Hook'em Horns!!!  Now I need to go wash my mouth out with soap...heheheheh

Hi KW -

I'm a newbie, having stumbled across this wonderful site doing a Google search. I'm about two months behind you on your journey and I can't tell you how much your posts (and the replies) have helped me. Once I figure out how to post my history as a signature, I'll list it out but a summary is that I had the DaVinci RP on January 17, 2007 (Gleason 7) at the age of 49. At about the 3 month point, leaking slowed down to about 2 full pads a day and since the six month point until now, 18 months later, I've been at 1+ full pad a day.

Although my leaking wasn't as bad as yours, my urologist said I should be greedy and try to get as dry as I can. Like you, I decided at the 18 month point to try the AdVance sling and had it "installed" on July 11 at GW Hospital in Washington DC. The first week was great with only minor dribbles and the same soreness and swelling you experienced. At about the 9 day post-surgery mark, I started leaking more and at 3 weeks post surgery, I'm back to where I was. There's an added complication in my case - at the same time the leaking starting increasing, I started draining some fluid from the inscision site which increased and got bloodier. Turns out that I had internal bleeding from the surgery and a large hematoma formed. My doctor thinks the hematoma and inflamation interfered with the sling performance and wants to see him again mid-August to figure out (1) fix the sling if it has come loose (2) consider an AUS or (3) do nothing. So, for now, I'll just deal with the hematoma drainage and think things through.

The funny thing is that I'm going on a European cruise in late August and was hoping to be dry for that. Oh well. I'll take your advice and pack plenty of pads! I look forward to your posts as I follow in your shoes.

Thanks again for sharing your journey.

Hey Rafter.  Sorry you are having some problems still.  I will let you know how the AUS thing goes for sure.  If I can cut it down to just one light panty liner a day I will be happy.    On the trip....I would stuff every pocket of each suitcase with the pads you like.  I had to buy some Assurance brand pads.  Did not like them at all.  I used them at night and on the ship.  Wore my Depends pads when in port.  I'm in the HW chat room most evenings.  Might see ya there.

    Good Luck, KW

KW - we're a little late to the party on this thread, but you know we've been pulling for you from the "git-go." Of course, being an Okie married to a born-and-bred TEX-un, I do understand about coming in as a foreigner (crossing the Red River and all that!).

We're so hopeful that this will get you to a new level - it just must. As gushers for months, here, it's so frustrating and does, indeed, set a whole low standard of living. Even now, it's not perfect but I can tell you - if you can get to a pad a day with light usage, it's do-able (and 100% is always possible).

P.S. - I have an Oklahoma shaped stepping stone for sale - cheap.

GreenAcres, Why are you selling the stone? Especially if it is made out of good ol Oklahoma Red Clay!!!! You need to put it in a special place in your yard. It will make you part of Texas look so much better!
Thanks for all the support.
