HeY Guys ,
I hope you are all having a great father day weekend!!
I had my 1 Year visit with my Uro/Surgeon today (exactly 1 year to the day after an open RR).
All seems great , we had discussed the fact that incontinence is non existing, and PSA is still at <0.1.
and i had ask him if i should try injection therapy to speed up the process (i had reported that with stimulation i can achieve 80% eretion without any mediations , and almost at 90 to 95% WITH help of oral meds) and he said that i am right on schedule if not even ahead of the curve being only one year out, and i should let nature take its course and see how the progress is before trying injections.

He was very pleased with the fact i can have a usable erection with the use of meds , and would not rush into injections at this time.

Any other experiences of similar paths out there ??

I will report of any significant progress once it happens!!

GB :-) :-)

PS i have changed the title line after getting some encouraging feed back from your Guys !!!
April 2007 PSA 8.4 for last 6 months biopsy shows PC 3+3=6
June 13 2007 Went for open RP with Dr. Christopher Johnson at St. Francis Hospital NY. with nerve sparing of both sides.
4 days later home for Fathers Day, and Catheter.
Removal of catheter 10 days later , incontinence next to nothing, no pads used from the get go.
1 month PSA next to not detected

ED is a longer battle:1 month out start using occasionally Cialis and 50MG Viagra to promote blood flow with no response for 6 months.
3 months and 6 months PSA not detected
ED 6 months mark starting with VED therapy and being more aggressive with meds , in addition taking Folgard supplement daily.
April 2008 10 month out and start seeing some serious improvements with ED while using Meds and VED , can achieve erections, Mid nights erections almost on a regular basis , and uncontrolled 90 % erections spontaneously.
1 year visit on June 13 2008 woohoooo!!!

UPDATE: 5/12/2008 ED:

Wow GBtongue

Congrats! You're doing very, very well!

I am 10 months out and I'd love to have the same report as you do.

ED is an issue for me, yet we're not worried about it.

Pads make life more "comfortable" as well.

In general, I'm loving life and the extra time I've bought with my treatment thus far.

Have a great father's day weekend!!!

Thanks Idaho!!!

I am feeling great , and it does take time , i had the most progress yet between 11 and 12 months, slow but stady.

so you are still early in the process and i have heard of 18 and 24 months time lines of back to potency!!!

Keep up the good work and good luck !!

Hello and thanks for good report!

I was in DaVinci may last year and now no problems with ED at all - strangely enough its even better then before operation!!! I use no drugs. Can you imagine? And was dry from day one. I feel even better now overall since operation due to the fact I stopped smoking totally. And thursday I played in a golf competition and had 39 points.... three better then handicap. Was 5 over par only. Just over one year ago life was very dark. Now its very bright... life changes... strange...

Gleason 4+3
Operation in DaV in may last year
PSA 5,9
51 years
PSA now less then 0,1
Half of nerves was taken away
Tumour was 5 percent of prostate

GB,

I think you are right on track - my hubby is close behind you. Now return of function without meds for us too (about 14 months post open surgery), after meds only working from 8-13 months.  Some further improvement again between 12-14 months for us we have noticed now. My husband said recently that he can feel some sorts of nerve twinges similar to about 8-10 months, as this current recovery is happening. Hope this helps. Good luck. :-)

Husband CJ aged 50 yrs (49 years at diagnosis and surgery)
PSA (2002) 2.1.  PSA (2006) 3.5.  1 x (5%) core of 12 positive at biopsy. 11 cores negative. Open Radical Prostatectomy with nerve sparing, on 17th April 2007 (Sydney, Australia).
Gleeson 3 + 4 = 7.
Fortunate to have three (3) "undetectable" PSAs since surgery 1 yr ago.  June 2007: PSA 0.01; Oct 2007:PSA 0.02; April 2008:PSA 0.02.

GB, if I were getting the results that you are, I wouldn't do injections at all.  That's my situation and my personal opinion.  Injections work, but they aren't fun.  Your recovery so far, is so close to what most 'post-op' guys would consider normal that I don't know that injections would do much more for you as far as accelerating that last 20%/10% or less.  When you consider some of the side effects of injections, I wouldn't do it, being so close to full function now.  But you got to do what you feel you need to do, so remember this is just my opinion.

Hi JamesC,

I happen to agree with you on injections.  My surgeon is concerned about scar tissue building up, and thus the potential for developing Peyronie's disease.   So, I'm waiting on that option.  Having said this, I completely understand why people turn to injections when nothing else seems to work.

I also get my kicks from a needle, and it's great! But if I had 80% naturally (0% currently), I'd be making do with that and trying to improve on it, without meds.

Thanks JamesC and Piano for your responses as well as all the others ,
Once my Uro /Surgeon gave me the encouraging data about time lines and his opinion was the same as James C i dropped the Injections option right away in his office ....i was only wondering if that will speed things up , but he sai if i can have the results i do , i should let nature work its course ... Thank you all for posting on my update report and i hope to read more about your progress guys ..this is a wonderful forum i come often to read al of your posts guys!!!
Keep up the good work !!
