I had robotic surgery on 5/28/08 and had the catheter removed on 6/5/08. Since that time I noticed more frequent urination at night. I never was a "get up to go guy" at night prior to the surgery (I had NO symptoms of a "bad" prostate before the elevated PSA), but since having the catheter removed I am getting up two or three times a night to urinate.

Is this normal and common?

Also, I'm curious about how soon after RRP I should be able to "attempt" sexual activity. It's been three weeks, have not really tried anything in earnest, but "strongly suspect" I have ED.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks...

Frequent urination at night, especially early on, is common.

I suspect your doc would say to try sex when you feel like it, especially if you are continent.

Good luck.

Bob was up 2 and 3 times a night for several weeks after surgery and catheter removal. He also wasn't a "get up to go guy" . . . . as the continence issues resolved, so did the night time visits. Now at just over the 18 months post surgery mark, he never has to get up and doesn't even restrict evening liquids. At around the 18 month mark day time visits seem to be further apart. . .showing that this is a continual healing process even long after we think we're all healed.

Good luck to you.

I had no prostate issues prior to being diagnosed with prostate cancer, but usually was up once a night to make my bladder gladder.  I liked having the catheter bag because I never had to get up at night.

I was up a little more at night after the catheter removal, but it resolved  quickly, as did the incontinence. ( I didn't make it thru an entire box of Costco incontinence underwear).  If I cut back on liquids a few hours before sleep, I usually make it thru the night fine.

ED for most of us takes longer to resolve.  I require penile injections because the oral meds didn't work.  Nonetheless there have been improvements over time.

Same here on the three times at night but before long it will be two times then, then once and sometimes none.
If your sex drive is coming back that is a good sign.
