Hi Everyone,

I have great news we went to the uroligst today and Rick accepted a 45mg shot of eligard, I am so thrilled.  I think all of the prayers and best wishes you have all sent our way have arrived at last. Thank you All.  Now my friends I need to learn about hormone therapy. He got a 6 month shot.

Thanks

Wow Diana!

What wonderful news!  We are so very happy for you and Rick!

May this treatment be a great blessing for your family.

I know those with hormone treatment experience will "chime in" and help you.

All the best,

Hormone therapy has some interesting side effects, but nothing you can't live with. The most noticable will be a lack of libido and hot flashes. I am so glad to hear Rick took a shot at this, and who knows God works in mysterious ways this just might be the answer you have been looking for.

peace and love

That's the way to go! Great, am glad he decided to go ahead with the HT. As for the side effects, it's really ok. As mentioned already, hot flashes and loss of libido are the main side effects. Don't worry if he doesn't lose his libido immediately, it can take a couple of months, so enjoy while it lasts. My husband is often in considerable pain the day after the injection but this normally lasts only a day or so.

Have you discussed with your specialist whether your husband should get Zometa for his bones? Cheers and good luck, Dutchy

That's great news indeed!

The hot flashes kicked in for me just about 2 months into ht --- same for loss of libido. My wife and daughter told me I was acttual a bit easier to get along with on HT! More patient --- not much temper. This may sound weird, but my wife joked that for birthday/Chirstmas shopping for her improved greatly as well --- not making this up!

All in all, not all that bad of experience. It took about 6 months after the therepy ended for the side effects to dissapear. Not hot flashes, lidido back in full, and a much shorter fuse (our daughter is 16 and I love here beyond words, but Dad's of teenage girls can sure relate to the shorter fuse these days).

AND...even though hormone therepay is not technically considered curative, my doc has had several patients that had a permanent response to ht and never went back on it again. So happy further treatment is in place --- needed to happen! Good luck!

I CAN imagine your relief! That's good news.
HT is treatment for quite a few guys here so you'll find lots of feedback on it.
As a wife I'll just say this:
Don't be surprised if Rick may have days where he says he's sorry he made this decision (remember, he IS receiving hormone therapy) that's completely normal and he'll move past that. It is an adjustment and for some, not always easy. Rick will learn to deal with this - you both will.
I'm happy he's giving himself this opportunity to live.

I wish you both the best,
Susan
