I had my cathater taken out three days ago and seem to be one of the really lucky ones because I haven't had much in the way of leakage at all but I have had a recurring problem the last two nights.

about every three hours during my sleep I wake up with a burning pain down in the bladder area, after I get up and relieve myself the pain goes away.  This happened three times last night and it always seems to happen when my bladder is almost full.

I'm wondering if this may be the start of an infection or something else that my doctor needs to look at.

Has anyone had anything similar happen to them and if so what was the outcome.

i didn't have any problems. to prevent infections, my doctor prescribled antibiotcs starting the day before the catheter was removed and for the next 6 days. you may want to call the doctor if this continues.

David,

Your description of "pain" when in need to relieve yourself at night is the same as mine was for the first month.  Even now, the feeling of "fullness" is not the same as before...it's a sharp pain.  Though it is probably normal, please ask your urologist what he thinks.  You don't want to deal with a bladder infection at this early stage of your recovery!
