Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great 4th of July, with lots of food and family.

It will be 2 weeks this Tuesday since Rick had his Eligard shot and as of today he has had no, no, no, side effects tongue :-) I hope this continues to be the case. I read that after 2 weeks he might start with hot flashes etc. How long did it take after your 1st shot did it take to know if the shot was working and did anyone start with side effects 2 weeks after getting the shot? BTW he had a 6mo shot of eligard 45mg.

Thanks
Diana

I was on a different drug (zoladex), but it took a good month for me to really start having significant hot flashes.

Diana,

My husband gets Lupron shots every 3 months. He did not start having side effects until about 1 month after the first shot. He was also taking Casodex at the time.

Diana

I have been on Lupron and Casodex for just over 2 months and I don't really understand why women complain so much a bout hot flashes.  They ain't so bad tongue . Now I am in real trouble cause Debbie says I don't know what I am talking about nono

Seriously my hot flashes have been nothing earth shaking and other than a few mostly at night it seems I have not noticed any side affects.  My Libido had already got up, or should I say gone south, and went, so I have no ideal how it is/will affect my love life.

Blessings

Richard yeah tongue yeah

My Uncle is on Casodex and Eligard.  The day before he started radiation and had his second eligard shot his PSA was tested. It dropped to .2 from 8.6.  After the first shot he started to notice diminished strength (he is a builder). Now, about 5 weeks after the second eligard shot he says the hot flashes are are starting from his toes and coming out his head. Plus, he feels them from the inside out.  He also feels very embarrased because he is growing breasts.  He also gets the Eligard every 6 months.  I will be glad to ask him any questions you may have.

Hi Diana,

I am taking a four month shot of Lupron and had taken Casodex for two weeks prior to the shot and two weeks after. My first shot was on May 15, 2008. No problems or side effects for about three weeks. Libido has since taken a holiday. No big deal since I am single and not in a relationship as this time. It really does not matter since the radiation will probably put an end to it anyway. I start that this month.

Hot flashes are becoming ordinary. Usually have them in the early morning prior to starting the day. A cup of hot tea or coffee usually is followed by one or two. And having a meal seems to be followed  by a hot flash for dessert. They are not really so bad as the doctors or web sites make them sound. Could have used them last winter it was a cold one. :-)

I work out threee times a week with weights and run daily. I also have been keeping up my garden and doing some woodworking as well. My oncologists tells me that moderate exercise can prevent the bone loss and, in some cases, prevent the swelling in the breast. Of all the potential side effects the thought of the breast thing bothers me the most. Luckily I have not experienced this.

Good luck and good health to you and your husband, Rick.

Best regards,

Don
