Had surgery on 4/28 and have been improving weekly but 10 days ago my Urine stream became weaker. It got so bad that I had to push to urinate and then only got a trickle. mad   Went in to see the Urologist yesterday.   At first an infection was suspected but when that was rulled out they did an Ultrasound of the bladder and then a Cysto.
What they did find was scar tissue had formed around the opening in the Urethra reducing the hole the urine flows thru.  During the Cysto they were able to cut a little away, opening the hole. The doctor left me with the thought that this may only be a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this problem ? and if so how was it treated ? eyes

I guess nobody else has experienced your problem from surgery! I had IMRT and a stricture in the urethra was formed, probably scarring from the radiation. My understanding is there are a few of ways to deal with the scarring. Cutting it to open things back up and dilation are the two I’m aware of. Like you, I’ve also read that the strictures can reoccur. In my case, my uro opted to dilation. In effect he stretched the urethra in the area of the stricture (not as horrible as it sounds!). Then I was in a Foley for three weeks (not fun). My uro then put me on a program of “clean intermittent cataterization” (CIC). This entailed doing a self- cath three times a day for a few weeks, then two times a day for a few weeks, then once a day…this has been going on since last October and now I just do it every three or four days. The idea is to keep the stricture from closing again. It has worked great. Peeing like a 20 year old. Doing the self-cath only takes a few minutes and I’ve not had any problems with infection or anything. One does need to keep things clean though. You might want to ask your uro about this approach.

Best wishes
