Has anyone had the latest in radiation treatment call proton Beam? Or the other new HIFU ultrasound therapy that actually cooks the cancer cells.

Proton Beam has been used for considerable time, although it hasn't been readily available to many patients  because Loma Linda has been the only institution to use it.

If you havn't already looked at the information, it's available on the protonbob website along with stories from a lot of men who have used the treatment.  When I was considering it a few years ago, Bob gave me contact details for 7 local men from Australia who had been there. All of them replied, and they were very positive about their results.

HIFU is new to USA but it's been used extensively in Europe and Japan for a long time. A ot of men have gone overseas for the treatment.

No doubt you'll have a number of replies with specific details from men who have used these treatments.

Hi rstarre

I just completed treatment for PC with an initial Gleason Score of 10 at the U of Florida Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville.  There are now 5 center in the US but I believe all have a waiting lists.  I know UFPTI is taking patients as I just completed treatment on Thursday.

My website has my story and links about proton as well as other treatments.

If I can assist you in any way please email me.

Richard

Thanks...what was the cost of the treatment. My insurance will pay only for part of it. I understand that it is very expensive

The estimated cost of the entire treatment was $159,000 with my insurance paying 100%.

There is also the cost of traveling (3 trips).  The first visit is one day with a second 3 day visit before treatment is started.

I say they paid 100% but from the statements I get from the insurance people they only pay a percentage of the billed amount but the Institute write the rest of it off.

They have a financial advisor who I think would talk to you about the cost factor.  I knew from my first one day consulation that my insurance would cover me. I would recommend calling and asking to speak to someone in the finance office.
